You can do that as long as you don’t overload the circuit.

What I did was run the dash cam from a fuse tap in the truck (with extended run batteries), and added an ignition 12v to the appropriate pin in the OBD port (which BMW doesn’t populate) from the front fuse box. I put a 12v to 5v converter in the body of the OBD plug and ran 5v power through a couple of the unused Ethernet wires to the RPi.

If you take a careful look at the fuse boxes (both front and rear), you’ll find that many of the fuses aren’t connected to anything! You can then check if those fuses are connected to permanent, ignition or accessory and use those fuses. You can buy crimps that will go in to the back of the fuses panels from BMW, and use these instead of fuses taps.

I created a google sheets document that lists the empty fuses for the front from my car and posted it on this forum at some point. I can’t post the link now, but will try later.
