As I said, BMW navigation is way better than Apple Maps. Google maps is smarter, but the interface (on Apply Carplay) sucks compared to BMW nav.
BMW has always charged for Apple Carplay. They used to charge one time for the option, now they charge per year.
Their argument is that most of their target customers lease their cars under 3 years. At $80/year, that's cheaper than the $300 option cost. That's just marketing BS. Basically, they charge because they can.
They are not compensating for any loss of revenue.
