Built in obsolescence - my Note 8, which works fine with no issues, will no longer receive android software updates (last one was this month from my understanding).
No more monthly security updates either - these will now be quarterly.
So, people are all but forced to update to a newer phone to stay current with software and security. Especially when, for example, apps require a certain software version.
Overall there doesn't seem to be a significant difference between a Note 8 and Note 10. That's why people aren't rushing out to buy the newest phone because the "upgrades and new features" just aren't that significant to justify the expense.
