If you want to put the bike in the back it would probs mean both wheels off. I'm tall, so my bike's seat post height is massive, so that meant both wheels and seat post off for me. I got fed up with that quickly and bought some BMW bars and a Thule 531 bike rack. It works pretty well and you fit/remove them all in about 10 mins.
If you take your bike abroad you'll not be able to get a bike box in it too, so that'd probs have to go on the rack too somehow.
