It was a paid option. If eventually the previous owner got one of the numerous aftermarket “unlock update” there is a good chance that dealership reset removed it.
If you are not sure, I would check the list of options included (from BMW point of view)

Thank you for your response, I checked on the mybmw app and it says CarPlay compatibility is included. I’m not sure if it was officially purchased though. I don’t see and option in the app for that. Is there a way to purchase it otherwise?
