BMW has confirmed that the next generation of 2-series
Coupe will keep its rear-drive platform. It's also likely to get the S58 engine in the M2 from the get go, though that hasn't been 100 percent confirmed to my knowledge.
My point mainly being that the FWD based 2-series gran coupe/1-series will be basically unrelated to the next M2. Totally different platforms.
