, forget layoff; losing $500K, that's almost 8 M2Cs.
I lost 45% (on paper) on my 401K in 2008, I was so numb I didn't do anything which turn out to be the best move cause DOW roaring back in summer 2009.
Many friends, move their 401K to money-market and bonds, "better be lucky than good" is true.
