Hmm that's strange. Are you sure all of the holes truly lined up on the bottom of the housing? The screw holes in the housing physically pop/seat into a bracket in the mirror assembly. This was the hardest part for me, requiring my eyes to get those holes lined up 100% and have someone else holding the housing together.
Even after all that I'm thinking I messed up on the drivers side and need to take it apart to double check.

Yup. Have both of these hole lined up when reassembling. Some how it still ends up not lining up correctly when i proceed to the next step.
