Hello everyone,

My name is Nico and I've had my 18' Alpine White M2 6 speed since January of 2021 and picked up the car off the original owner with only 3,800 miles. After a little over 5 years and 27k miles I've decided to go down the rabbit hole of OEM Plus mods. I'd like to share my experience with the IND Distributions Carbon Roof Installation which was extremely straight forward for me and I'd like to share this so that some of you can have the same positive experience if you decide to go down the same route as me.

First: I'd like to prefix this by saying that this carbon roof install wouldn't have happened if it weren't for some unforseen circumstances where my appartment complex door closed on my car while I was going through it and it shattered the windsheild and dragged across the roof but didn't damage anything else supprisingly. the OEM slicktop F22/F87 metal roof was priced at $1,800 with a 4 to 8 week ship time while the IND Roof is listed at $2,195 with a 2 week ship time, so for me it was a no brainer.

Things to keep in mind: After extensive conversations with IND in Chicago who has installed ~60 of these over the years. They came to the conclusion that it's much safer to ship the roof as a full piece with the dremel work to be done at the same location where the roof is being installed. While the dremel work is very small and only in 5 places (4 for the bolts on the side of the roof which is covered by the roof rails and the center back portion of the roof to mount the antenna.) Some body shops may be a bit scared at first when working with such a large single sheet of expensive carbon but after overseeing the dremel process myself, the execution was very professional. Another small addition that I view as mandatory is to also paint the roof rails in an OEM gloss black which matches the window trim so that the pannel better lines up with the front and rear glass.

While I'm currently in Dallas for my last year of college, the car will be making it's way back to it's natural habitat (The Bay Area) soon, where all the enjoyable roads are :D

Any questions about the process are welcome:
The shop that did the work for me in the Dallas area is named: Harvey's Collision Center @ 4310 Maple Ave, Dallas, TX 75219
I can highly recomend them.

Driver side DRL dim

I’ve been researching this for a while and everyone has said that when the DRL fails or gets burnt by the LED you have to replace the headlight.

I’ve been researching this for a while and everyone has said that when the DRL fails or gets burnt by the LED you have to replace the headlight.

I didn’t believe that.

The LED is pretty much in a fixed position on the module.

The only variable left is the alignment of the “light tube” to the LED.

I took the known good working light module out so I could see how the inner light tube was mounted

Wa la!

The light tube on the passenger side was fixed on a post inside the assembly. When I compared it the driver side, the tube was not fixed. It was sitting back in the assembly. I carefully moved it out and closer to where the LED would be and it clicked into place.

BOOM

The DRL was as bright as the rest.

I’m assuming the adhesive used had failed or they didn’t use any at all.

Hope this helps

There is a company that repairs the headlight assemblies with new lenses and I’m assuming light tubes.

I hate the idea of having to replace these at $1600 a piece.

Hope this helps someone that might be on the fence of replacing them for this.
