can you drive with engine check light ?

hi all,

have been driving for a month now (2007 e92 320i) and since day two, had this engine check message which code refers to failed " NOx sensor heater control circuit open bank 1 F2205"

Read about failed NOx and most posts say that people drives with failed NOx sensors without any issues.
So wanted to give it a try with CataClean and now BG44k and hoping the sensor gets cleared.

With cold engine I drive up to 3500 RPMs and there is no issues, car goes smooth no engine check light...

however when going high RPMs car yanks when accelerating , usually on 2nd gear and after a while the engine check is back for couple of seconds. This most likely happens on cold ( or relatively cold ) engine

NOx is a 300+ euro part so I want to make sure its something worth replacing and that will fix this behaviour. Previous owner replaced set of coils, the millage is 70k...

Any thoughts ?

I do love the noise above 4500 RPMs so it makes no fun driving up to 3500

Thanks !

thanks Mike for replay.
When I drive slow I forget all about this but it is annoying to not be able to speed up properly when needed.

I am considering replacing this NOx but there is many questions like:
- do I have to replace one or more of sensors ?
- would failed NOx sensor influence accelerating that much ?
- 4 out of 5 NOx sensors has been discontinued according to this website
PHP Code:
http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E92/Europe/320i-N43/R-N/browse/exhaust_system/lambda_probe_fixings#7587130_5
would replacing with the latest one fix the issue?
- do you ( or any of users here ) had similar issues ? what was the fix ?

Thanks again for replay!
