Intrigued!
Would they really call it the 1M though? Probably. If I recall, the 1M designation came about due them not wanting to interfere with the original M1 car right? Maybe keep that reserved no longer matters

I don't see BMW using the "M1" designation on this car. Not saying they'd never use that nomenclature again, but if they do, I'd be surprised if it's for a 4-door hatchback.

I can't say, I didn't have time to look inside the magazine, there was a full spread inside.

Article says :
This week's Autocar brings you big news of BMW's first true VW Golf R rival, which'll come in the form of an all-wheel drive M130ix next year. Can the marque's first non-rear driven hot hatch really take the fight to its more experienced rivals? |

If they did make a 1M hot hatch (no, not the M140i), that was RWD and same power levels as the civic M2, I would definitely be interested.
But they won't, and if they did, the US probably wouldn't get one. Sigh...

My mom just got a GTI and loves hot hatches - it's a missed opportunity in my opinion. Maybe we will get the M140i soon though - it's about to be refreshed I think?

Why would BMW target the Golf R other than it's all European? The Golf R isn't really that great of a performer compared to all the good hot hatches out there nowadays.

I LOVE hatch-backs, given the fact that it give better practicality but still not losing driving dynamics unless you are going over 150 mph. If they will give true M (not M140i Xdrive) with RWD/ manual. They are guaranteed to take my money haha |

Agreed - the GTI comes with a lot of kit standard too. It's an awesome package.

While I consider a fwd/transverse-engine car (w/awd or not) with a BMW badge to be rolling blasphemy, a 4-door hot hatch from BMW with such good looks and a decently sporty driving experience would be nice... I could certainly see myself buying said rolling blasphemy to replace my GTI in another 3 years or so (provided I'm less enamored with the next-gen GTI). It'd also make a good excuse for another ED trip.
