Spied: BMW M2 Prototype With LCI Parts, Larger Brakes and M3/M4 Exhaust

Updated July 20, 2017:

Here is the newest live look at the M2 CS Prototype testing at the Nurburgring!

Updated March 30, 2017:

The M2 CS / Competition prototype has been spotted for the first time in a couple of months. With the weather warming up, it's now taken to the Nurburgring for more track testing. Several videos have also popped up. See photos and videos below.

This M2 CS (or M2 Competition) prototype has been spied wearing LCI bits. Until now, the M2 CS has only been spotted sounding like an M3/M4, but looking like a standard M2. This M2 prototype features the same refreshed headlights, tail lights and grilles seen on the standard 2 Series LCI prototypes, but it also wears a huge Bane-like camouflage covering the front bumper which suggests a significant design change up front.

Regardless of what lies behind the front end camouflage, the most telling signs that this is the M2 CS and not just an standard LCI M2 are its much larger steel brakes and M3/M4 like exhaust canister. You can see these differences below compared to the photos of the standard M2 LCI prototype which features the current M2 brakes and exhaust. Note: the prototypes are currently wearing all season tires for testing purposes during the winter months.

To recap, the M2 CS will feature the M3/M4's S55 engine, but slightly detuned to 400 HP. In addition to the new engine, the M2 CS will feature other track focused bits such as suspension tweaks and aerodynamic parts - such as more aggressive front bumper / front splitter and rear spoiler or wing. Expect a throatier exhaust and possibly optional carbon ceramic brakes as well. It will come to market in 2018 (as a MY2019 in the US).

Intresting, the F2* series is having a long and healthy life amongs BMW.
The final chapter looks very intresting though, i hope it will be made in relatively big numbers, and not be a limited run for marketing purposes.
Would be intresting to see next model line up, how BMW are going to differenciate the 2 and 4 high end models. This is a winner.

The camouflage up front hiding the design change in the fangs/winglets, is that a LCI thing across both standard M2 LCI and M2 CS? Or only M2 CS???

First mod would be to paint the cow udder (aka exhaust can) black.

If matching camouflage is any indication, the same changes will come to both the standard M2 LCI and the M2 CS.

This is the front end of the standard M2 LCI, wearing the same camo as the M2 CS prototype.

Those wheels! I love them. Those headlights look like the LCI daytime running lamps but with Xenons..

Wow, this is the one to get! Wondering what it will do to current residuals though... Hopefully make them cheaper for pending second hand buyers like myself.

Very interesting! Thx for that.

Will the M2 LCI and M2 CS share the same engine? With different HP numbers.
Or will they have different engines?

Different. M2 LCI retains its current N55 engine while the M2 CS gets the S55 engine from the M3/M4 (tuned for less HP).

Thank you for sharing! In the original post only the rear of the standard LCI spy shots were posted.

Both LCI and LCI M2 CS vehicles look spectacular!

The CS is a serious candidate for next car. Please add a dedicated oil temp gage... and CF roof... and M3/4 mirrors

These are the OEM 19" winter wheel option for the M3 (maybe for the M2 as well) and I definitely agree, this car looks sooooo much better with silver wheels.
