As expected. The RS3 is a slingshot off the line that experiences parasitic AWD drivetrain loss as speed increases. Rolling starts and 1/2 mile events favor the M2 as would, in my biased opinion, the fun to drive aspect.

And mid 2017 RS3 gets 40 more HP and loses 26kg (57lbs) over the front axle. That thing is a rocket ship.

This video wasn't about how they compared on a track. And I dunno about you, but I do well over 99% of my driving on public roads where I'm limited to 110km/h and staying in my lane lest I risk losing my license and spending some time in state sponsored accommodation.

That sounds brutal, my condolences. Even with our NE US traffic congestion problems, we're still able to drive upwards of 170+ km/h fairly safely on open interstates.

I'm originally from South Africa where those sorts of speeds are common place (largely because police were so easy to bribe)...then I came to Australia where the penalties are quite severe. This wiki page has more details.

It's a bizarre juxtaposition when you consider Aussies in general have a huge love affair with V8 muscle cars.

Yes, an understeering, inert car that falls apart when driven over 8/10ths. Based on a FWD chassis shared with Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen... yup, premium stuff right over there!!

This is a good option is you do not know what a sports car should feel like and react. You do not need to drive 10/10 to find out

They can lighten the 5 cylinder all they want, it still is completely over the front axle and the car is still FWD based. Have you ever seen any other car with wider front tires than rear ones?

Meanwhile you have an M2. Chassis shared with the 3/4 series. 50/50 weight distribution. Wait, let me think long and hard about what I prefer...

I would never own one even if I never went to the track. Life it too short to drive FWD based cars.

Every now and then the owner of one of these pieces of junk (Golf R or RS3) thinks they bought an actual sports car and takes it to a track day... a LOL volcano ensues

M2 looks and sounds better especially on those shifts my that overrun sounds awesome.

That being said RS3 sedan coming for the States will be pretty cool too. But I pick the M2.

It seems apparent that you may have been "on track" but have not actually raced. I have had both FWD and RWD race cars, and both race just fine with their own advantages. I plan to get an M2 in the spring, but I'd race you in an M2 with me in an RS3 any day on track for pinks. Mid-Ohio at 50 paces?

Don't be ridiculous. You can argue and goad me into 'racing for pinks' (what is this, high school?) as long as you want, but the fact remains that a 400hp FWD car that weighs 3500lb is not indicated for track use. The only thing you will do is violate your front tires into oblivion.

A buddy in an E92 can offer to 'race for pinks' with a GT3 RS at WGI and win, but exactly what has been proven? The GT3 RS may have been slower, but it is the better track car. The difference was in the drivers.
In much the same way, a good driver in an RS3 may beat an M2 driven poorly. This does not say anything about the respective merits of the car.

You already see this with the Focus RS, which at least tries to direct more power to the rear but nonetheless destroys its front tires quite quickly.

Compared to an RS3, the M2 is a track weapon.

BTW, I care nothing for either car. However, it is important to warn unsuspecting owners that a Golf R, RS3 and TTRS are FWD cars that feel nice until you drive them hard, when they fall to pieces. The Focus RS is in a similar boat, but at least it tries hard to not be a FWD POS

+1 In Texas we have some 85 MPH speed limits- either of these cars would be fine. Ill say this- if Audi has the RS3 in a COUPE form (They do have the coupe version for the cabriolet) same body style just two doors instead of 4, And while on the track the M2 would be "better", for those very few that give a crap about that. But in everyday driving they would both be excellent but to me the Audi wins on its very nice but more conservative look AND the inside tech of the RS will kick BMWs ass. While neither Nav system is perfect the dual screen infotainment of the current 2017 Audis is just far superior than anything BMW does. And 4 wheel drive is better in bad weather for the everyday driver.

Ok I drive a one series myself (135i) and I still find your comment very ignorant. Have you driven or owned a modern Skoda or Seat? I've also owned a modern Leon ST and did several trackdays with Leon Cupra. The Cupra in particular would for sure be much quicker than my BMW on a track and the car had zero understeer... Go try some proper diff equipped fwd cars before condemning them

I used to be a giant FWD hater and just overall thought it was a complete waste. then I went to a track day at Road Atlanta and saw this old civic hatchback schooling a track full of GTR's and M3's. That's the moment I really understood the importance of knowing how to drive your car. You don't drive a FWD car like you would a RWD car, and a FWD car is not bad.

M2 will have the updated version too.
On track it will be no contest.
On street you may do more rolling than stop & go..
From a more practical point of view, M3 is quite a good car so who will buy this RS3 sedan?

I cant disagree with you (the new A4 and A5 already look boring!) but the RS3 (Even the new S3 LCI) and the S6 2107 LCI , while understated look kick ass- the 2 series is one refresh design away from looking great. My wife has an M235 I have a 435 Gran Coupe. The 2 simply isn't long enough to resolve the lines and looks frumpy- the rear end looking absolutely terrible (cue the Audi driver looking at the rear of an M2 comment) - the 4 looks SOOO much better IMO. The RS3 lower and slightly wider than the S3 will look
fantastic over the long run and not so "boy racer" like the M2- all comes down to taste - oh and the Audi interior kicks BMWs ass in every way.

M3 is a beautiful car IMO- but it is a BIG car and is still 75k when optioned out- the RS3 is smaller and will probably be ~10k less?

No idea where you are talking about...don't know any place in the NE where you can drive 170 km/h safely and in a regular basis...
