BMW testing M2 GTS / CSL at the Ring?
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW is testing M2 something at the Ring? This M2 was just spotted undergoing testing at the Nurburgring and while it has no outwardly visible indications of being a GTS / CSL model, might the prototype stage camouflage and previous rumors lead one to speculate that this could be a more performance variant of the M2? |

From the video description on youtube:
It shouldn’t be hard to spot the CSL/GTS from its regular M2 siblings, as it will feature an aggressive aero package, including a prominent rear wing and a jutting front splitter. If the German magazine is correct, the car will also ride on a wider track, as well as a lowered suspension package. Under the bonnet, the M2 CSL/GTS could feature the twin-turbo S55 3.0-litre straight-six engine used in the M3 and M4. In the larger sedan and coupe, the S55 develops 317kW of power and 550Nm of torque. The regular M2 is motivated by the N55 3.0-litre straight-six. With just a solitary turbo its name, this motor develops 272kW of power and 465Nm of torque. No word, yet, on when the M2 CSL/GTS will make its debut. |

Looks more like the LCI model maybe? I don't see any noticeable differences that would classify it as a GTS/CSL...

Sounds more like an M3 Competition to me than an M2. Testing the S55?

This particular testmule has been driving around for ages @ Nordschleife, it probably is a car used even BEFORE the international M2 introduction last april. They will continue testing stuff, the camouflage stickers stay on the car and later on it will be destroyed. This was stated by guys at several German BMW forums. So 'just an M2' in testmule disguise and nothing to worry about is my guess...
This was August 19th. Same car. http://www.autogespot.com/bmw-m2-coupe-f87-1/2016/08/19 Cheers Robin |

Whatever this is, it reaffirms my belief that the M2 should at least have the option of silver 343 wheels.

Could also be testing of a B58 LCI Engine.

My speakers on this surface aren't so great but I replayed multiple times...that really does sound like an S55, lift off farts and all.
If that's the case wouldn't it really tread on the M4 sales? edit: nvm. There's just no way. |

Of course this is the "year 2 of the M2" special uber
1 of 100 edition that comes with special wheels, a "Look at me I'm special!" embroidered in the headrests, chalkboard exterior paint and a $20k price premium before another $20k ADM! |

How about a 2 series grand coupe without headphones jacks and Retina display headlights.

Not saying that the M2 in the video features a different engine than the N55, but, FWIW, according to a German source, an M2 featuring the S55 engine already existed at least in 2015, developed side-by-side with the base M2 featuring the N55 ("The S55 is already a long time inside the F87! It's lapping the Nürburgring Nordschleife already for more than a year!") (source: here). However, in none of the M2 test mule videos that we know of (see here for a compilation), we recognize the sound of the S55 engine. And another German source who claims to have personally seen the engine bay of the M2 variant noticed that it featured the M3/M4 CF strut brace ("I have even already seen the test mule with the engine in the M. Wanted someday to see the engine bay [...]. It struck me that it featured the M4 strut brace. Was then confirmed that the engine is coming. 2018 was mentioned to me, but possibly only a small series (M2 CSL ?). But of course there are also variants that never become a series model.") ((source: here). Rumor has it that an "M2 CS" is in the works for MY2018. See the M2 CS rumor thread: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1228342 Conclusion: until further notice by BMW, it all remains a little sketchy and speculative. Time will tell what ace BMW M has up its sleeve.
