Rear Reflector Kit

Edit:

Trying a new color scheme. Please let me know what you think Just trying to make the mesh look more visible, still need to color match it though.

Hi all, I am thinking of making a mesh clip-on to replace the rear deflector; many members here have already brought this up several times.

To get some feedback, what kind of mesh do most people prefer? Pattern, hole size and I am thinking of making the mesh with a back (so it's not a complete see through)

The first prototype should come out in about 2-3 weeks, as soon as I get an extra reflector from BMW.

Pictures, thoughts, comments etc... are welcome

A few months later...

This project started out with just comments and requests from forum members. I am glad that the kits (Honeycomb and Slat) were able to be produced without outrageous investment burden.

Thank you for all the input and feedback

To make viewing easier for the new guys/girls, I am going to insert the pictures here.

For any information regarding the reflector kit, please feel free to PM me or email me: david@acexxon.com

Installation Guide is on Page #25

I'm partial to a honeycomb look, 1/8" hole size or smaller - hard to say without seen one up close. Keep us posted, I'm definitely interested.

Thanks for the feedback!! The OEM front mesh looks like honeycomb as well, but in a horizontal direction.

I will definitely keep you posted, need to get my hand on a reflector and I can get my engineers to start working on a Rapid Prototype; should receive the reflector next week

Honeycomb look is good for me too but my build is still quite a ways off.

Using the time to gather ideas for mods, and rear reflectors definitely need doing.

Definitely interested as well, would prefer honey comb and most likely with a back so it is not completely see through

I ordered a new rear bumper due to someone hitting it. I'm shaving the reflectors and running a vent

They should be small enough it would be easy to spray with any color you'd like at home.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

I think I will go for the honeycomb design and those that wish to have metallic look can spray paint them at home.

Once I receive the reflector I will have my engineers construct a 3D model. The fitment will be 100% accurate as we will be 3D scanning the reflector to obtain all the dimensions first.

I will keep updating this post.

I would request a louvered design as it would serve to hide the fact that it's not really a vent...

With the mesh design being black and having a black back, people will see it as vent I think.

By the way, reflector arrived and I will pick it up tomorrow morning and get things started!

Definitely interested in what you come up with. Although I a will say that I like the OEM reflector more than I thought I would.

So I picked up the reflector today from a BMW dealer in town and noticed that it is pretty thin.

Nevertheless, I will still be able to make it look like a piece of mesh, except that one will be able to see the inside of the mesh up close since it is not too thick.

I also want to try the slated horizontal vent design. Similar to what you would find on an aftermarket engine hood. Should have some 3D drawings up next week and we'll see how the designs go.

There's nothing stopping you making them thicker as i cant't see 1-2mm extra sticking 'forward' hurting!

If I do that, the mesh surface won't stay flush with the bumper, I think it might be awkward

I think it looks good, but hard to really tell by itself? Any way you can PS it so we can see how it looks on the car?

I think I am gonna make rapid prototypes for both styles (I'll post up the other style tomorrow) and take some pictures for you guys.

Once the design is confirmed, it'll take another 40~45 days before I can start shipping them out.
