Well posted.

Ignore my thread !

The Ford does look like good value on figures alone, but obviously there's more to it than that.

I don't know why they bother testing on such a small and tight track

46 sec

you take a hyper car on to thoese tracks, and they wont be much quicker

1) Its a Ford
2) Its still a Ford
3) I'm not a boy racer

Thats why they shouldn't be compared.

Terrible comparison.

I don't know if i should impressed that all the AWD are being compared to the RWD.

The "mighty!" AWD....there seems to be a lovefest for AWD in the past few years.

Different classes of cars are compared all the time. How many times have we seen BMW vs Porsche?

Also this was purely a "track battle", all they cared about was comparing the performance. The only requirement for a "track battle" is that performance levels of both cars are reasonably similar. It doesn't matter if one is a practical 5-door hatch and the other is an entry level luxury sports coupe, as long as the performance is close.

It's not like it was M2 vs a Ford Escape - that would have been irrelevant and stupid.

Is it just me or does his reactions while driving show that he had more fun driving the M2?

Yeah, this. Ford took advantage of the two-mode dampers on the Focus to really crank it down in track mode. With the passive shocks on the M2, you just can't do that without giving up too much ride quality. The Focus looked sharper and more responsive on the track too. The Ford of Europe vehicle dynamics engineers are really good . . . I'm not sure if the latest M car's shortcomings are due to the capabilities of the hardware or the people tuning it.

Back in the '80ies there basically was three competitors in the DTM and on the road:

MB 190E 2.3-16V AMG
BMW E30 M3
Ford Sierra RS Cosworth

There where lots of comparisons between these three cars back then. In Europe, and especially the UK, Ford's RS models have a high standing.

It's quite interesting to see how close they where in this test. And amusing to read some of the comments here to find positives for the M2 (like analyzing facial expressions to find out if the M2 was more fun )

BTW. Todays boyracers drive BMW's (usually E36, E46 and E90) or some jap crap 200SX . At least over here... Boy racers driving Ford's didn't happen since the late 90'ies, early noughties

It may be a Ford but it's only about $36k.

No not lux but hey.

I'm not giving up my tuned e90 for either.
Neither one of them offers enough to sell my E90 and buy one.
The Ford feels cheap.
The M2 offers nothing better than my E90.

So here I am with an 8 year old car and absolutely no motivation to upgrade.

I ordered a RS. It will be my winter ride. I believe FORD is the first manufacturer to offer a winter/tire package (in addition to summer rims)in the US. More impressive: the RS is 5 door hatch with AWD and a manual!!

I love that Ford. Considering that he almost lost control of the m2 it doesn't surprise me that it was only .1 seconds faster.

You don't have to look hard to find positives for the M2 considering it's the best car BMW makes. As far as this test? Let's look at the M2's positives since they are so hard to find, shall we? The M2 sounds better, looks better, it's lighter and faster than the Focus. It's also rear wheel drive.

And yeah, I didn't really have to "analyze" his facial expressions to tell he had more fun in the M2...his laughter and "oh shit's" points that out.

both performed almost identical times and your telling me it's not comparable ?

maybe your right because if they used a 6speed manual in the bmw m2 vs. the Ford RS manual, the M2 would of lost more then just 10th of a sec.
