Active Autowerke | M2 Build Documentation **Updated 7/13/16**

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Research and development on a new chassis is nothing new for us. We're wasting no time with the recent acquisition of our M2, and we will be documenting the entire build here.

We picked up an Alpine White car with a manual transmission. Our plan with it is to build an extremely functional but aesthetically pleasing daily driver. It will get our full Signature performance package, and we will also be working with a few other companies to help develop a capable suspension and wheel/tire package that will excel on the track while maintaining enough comfort for your daily work commute. Stay tuned for updates!

4/15/16 Purchased the car.

Here's a shot of it the day we got it.

We test fit two sets of wheels on it as well. They look a bit funky at stock height, and the offsets are not correct but it gave us a good idea as to where we need to be with wheel fitment.

Apex EC-7 in 18x9.5 et22.

Volk TE37SL in 18x9.5 et22.

4/18/16 Got the car on the dyno. Baseline runs show a healthy ~330whp and ~339lb/ft. We also configured one of our Active-8 units for a few runs as well. We found that increasing boost levels produced significant gains down low, but intake air temps with anything over 1psi more than stock above 5500rpm were too high. The car would start to pull timing and make less power than stock, even with a richer AFR. We've decided to start designing a methanol injection kit and we're also working on an upgraded intercooler solution. Graphs below.

Oh, and our F8X Slip-On tips fit perfectly on the stock M2 exhaust, as pictured below!

3 Stock Runs

Active-8. Nearly 400 lb/ft at ~3300rpm with 17psi on 93 pump. We tapered boost to stock levels up top to keep the IATs down. Keep in mind that this was our first day on the dyno with the car. We will continue tuning development to see what we can do about keeping power up top.

4/19/16 Scheduled a track day with NASA at Sebring International Raceway. We will be bringing the car in "showroom stock" form to get a baseline lap time at our home track. The only variable altered will be tire pressure.

4/20/16 We have confirmed partnerships with BC Racing NA and Motorsport Hardware. We will be working with BC Racing on and off the track to develop a set of coilovers that will be custom valved and sprung to work with our M2. Motorsport Hardware will be providing high quality wheel hardware for the build as well.

4/21/16 BC requested cross balance information to help determine the spring rate and valving choice for the coilovers, so we put the car on scales today. It weighed in as expected - 3436lbs with no driver and 1/2 tank of fuel. As with most BMWs, it's pretty well balanced. There is only a ~20lb combined variance between the cross weights, which would equate to a 10lb offset per side, not bad at all. With a 150lb driver the total difference jumped up to 28lbs, which would be about a 14lb offset per side.

5/5/16

We've confirmed another partnership with Nitto Tire! They were kind enough to provide us with a set of NT-05 tires in 275/35/18 square. The NT-05 is available in two different compounds, and we opted for the 140 treadwear version for a little more grip. We've worked with Nitto in the past and have had nothing but great experiences with them. The NT05 is still a street tire, but is more than capable of holding it's own on the weekends at the track!

5/12/16

Our test day footage from Sebring is now available. Please see the thread here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...9#post19923689

5/26/16

This week we installed the prototype BC Racing coilover kit. We have a couple hundred miles on it and so far so good! The kit will come with camber plates and will utilize the stock rear upper mounts. Here's a shot with Apex EC-7 18x9.5 et22 and 265/35/18 square and another with stock wheels.

6/1/16

Yesterday we finished up installing the prototype BC Coilovers with camber plates. After making a few spring rate adjustments and modifications for the camber plates we feel that the BR kit is now ready for production! Next we'll be working with BC to dial in a DR kit with Swift springs that we plan on using permanently on the car for street and track. Below is a photo of the settled height with the stock wheels.

The car will be aligned tomorrow with our street/track specs and at that time we'll take measurements for wheel fitment. I'm really hoping to fit the 18x10 square setup as planned!

Big thanks to IND for hooking us up with a set of paint matched front reflectors as well, the little things really make a difference in the visual appeal of the car!

Hugh's Detailing also took the time to XPEL wrap our M2! Full story here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...2#post20033462

**Update 7/6/16**

We've made some progress on our exhaust system as documented here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1278164

We also received our BC Racing 18x10 square wheels today! They will be mounted to our Nitto NT05s and installed on the car within the next couple days. We weighed them in at 19.8lbs which is not bad at all for a fairly wide 18x10" wheel!

Update 7/13/16

We've finalized our exhaust configuration and have uploaded pics and a sound clip here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...6#post20170586

We've also fitted the 18x10 275/35 square setup as well here: http://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1282984

This is fantastic! You guys certainly aren't waiting around huh?
First off, it's great to see the M2 with something other than stock wheels. Looks very purposeful.
Secondly,we all expected that the N55T won't have as much headroom as the S55 for tuning so far, but definitely looking forward to what you guys come up with.

Keep up the good work!

Those tips are beast! Any idea if they'll fit on the MPE so we don't have to shell out $800-1k for tips?

We may play around with e85 but it isn't extremely accessible here in Miami yet.

I'm not entirely sure if they'll fit the MPE yet. However if the MPE is designed like the MPE for the M4, then they probably will not fit. BMW used a different diameter on the M4 MPE so that you could not use the MPE tips on the OEM exhaust.

Look forward to more updates and lap times.

If the turbo is the std N55 (which it could be understood it is since the tech training manual doesn't list anything apart from the wastegate actuator as changed from the std N55 turbo), it makes sense that you experience high IAT's above 5000rpm and only could run 1psi extra boost above 5k.

Will be interesting to see if the turbo is at it's limit or if it's capable of supplying enough volume of air also with increased boost above 5k...

et22 front and rear? no rub? what tires sizes are you running? That's exciting. I'm aiming for 265 front and 285 rear.
