Thumbs up Motor Trend Ignition - M2

Motor Trend Ignition Ep 142 - M2
The BMW 1 Series M Coupe was an instant classic. It was the product of an internal skunkworks project to shoehorn the suspension, wheels, and brakes from the larger M3 Competition Pack into the 1 Series. The fender-flared squat little bulldog was a bit badly behaved, which only made us love it more. These days, BMW’s cars are more capable, but at the expense of the involvement that made the brand what it is today. So we were genuinely concerned that the M2 would be more of a marketing exercise than a real Motorsport-inspired product. MOTOR TREND Senior Editor Jason Cammisa takes the M2 to the back roads, and brings SCCA Hall of Fame inductee Randy Pobst along to the Streets of Willow to find out if the M2 is a worthy successor to the laugh-a-minute 1M Coupe in this episode of Ignition, presented by The Tire Rack.

^ I wasn't going to ruin it for everyone that hasn't seen it, but guess you've done that

Nothing new from the article they wrote to be honest, but how good did both those cars look on the track? And IMHO, LBB > SO.

Great video! Loved it... makes the wait even harder

If someone can live without better leather, etc, the M2 is such a value proposition in the BMW line up right now. Clearly he liked it more than the M3/4... I can't wait to compare them myself. I'll do back to back "aggressive" drives and see

Jason explained more about the "crooked seat". I have no idea how he noticed that to begin with. It was cool to see the cars whipping around the track.

I think mine said that it would charge the card after 2 week period. Oh well, it's only $6 worst comes to worst.

I've driven the 2ers and I have no idea what he's talking about. Maybe I don't notice these kinds of things, but they are going to change the seats just for the M2 (physically).

I'd actually love to hear your feedback of the 2 cars as you and I have had pretty much all the same BMW's.

I'll do a detailed review His comments "best M car on the streets" and "welcome back BMW" make me very excited. I love my M4 and hopefully feel the same way as he does about the M2. We'll see...

Is this the future of Motor Trend videos? I only watch Ignition and Head2Head which is only like 3 videos a month or 45 minutes of watching, if they're on their game. Gotdamn Netflix is only $8/month and dare I say there is a little more content there.

I desperately want to smack the person at BMW that didn't want to do a Gran Coupe 2er and M2 for this generation. It would have made my decision easier.

The best part for me was him saying how the steering just feels miles better than the M4.

If the light switch at the M division has gone on, and they figured out how to make a good and fun handling car again, I'd love to know if they sprinkled that magic powder on the M3/4 CP as well. One would think...

No. With OnDemand, you just get to watch those shows early. But you also have a lot of Live tv and races. I just signed up to watch this video and it was worth it

Well, that rocked. This was another strong statement about the driving differences between the f87 and the f80/f82, I'd say. Worth a free trial to watch it for sure.

The crooked seat thing is pretty weird, although these guys seemed to get over it fine.

The trouble with these damn things is that they just increase the lust level, with months to go for most of us...

Jason doesn't like the M4. Jason and Jonny picked the Camaro over the M4 in the head-to-head. That video is also available on MT on demand right now.

And they wouldn't be the first to not like the current M3/4. But from everything I've read so far about the CP, it seems like it makes the cars much more controllable and better to drive. Now how much of it is just due to wider tires, I don't know. One reviewer called the CP "transformational", so it'll be interesting to see what these guys think of it.

Damn, this video made me even more impatient and excited. But I have to admit that I wasn't expecting M2 to beat M4 around the track. I'm impressed!

The REAL reason BMW brought out the Competition Package for the M3/M4 at the same time the M2 is coming out!

I kid..I kid....
