We Interviewed the BMW M2's Lead Designer, Hussein Al-attar
RightFootDown.com is live at the 2016 North American International Auto Show and just interviewed Hussein Al-attar, the lead designer of the BMW M2.
We should have asked him why the hell the car didn't get M4 mirrors! Nonetheless, hope you enjoy!

Enough with the mirrors!
We know why the M2 does not have them. If you been following the M2 from the beginning you would know why it does not have the mirrors.

What a complete load of bollocks. Seriously. Why are people lying through their teeth? It actually insults my intelligence that they think they can get away with it.
The reason the M2 doesn't have M3/M4 mirrors is because they didn't fit and it was too expensive to create bespoke ones for such low production numbers. Period. |

BMW hasn't shied away from admitting cost cutting or market position for certain things. Tons of things on the 1M were done for cost, and he mentioned here part of the mirror decision was to keep it distanced from the M3/M4 market wise. I'm sure cost was a factor, but it certainly doesn't come off as the #1 factor according to BMW. |

The car is nice, the horizontal line on the hood is not...
I am waiting for some smart brain that will realize what impact a longer hood will have and how nice and clean it will look without that horrendous gap. And please, don't even bring that pedestrian argument in place... be smart, do some homework before... |

Hussain and his team did an amazing job, there is not a single design element that I don't like on the car. Looking forward to getting mine some time this year.
