M2 Product Launch Guides

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi guys,

With reference to the thread around the M2 having adaptive suspension or not, I promised to post the entire guides in a new thread. Here is that thread...

Apologies for the low quality, they are photos of a printout given to me. The sales guy said there was nothing in there that wasn't fit for public consumption. Don't take it all as gospel, anything can change, but at least it's something tangible to discuss

Thanks for posting, it looks like it does have adaptive dampers which is a big selling point for me if I am going to daily this car.

No worries mate. I'm in the same boat really, whatever car I have needs to be a daily driver regardless of road and weather conditions. You could argue a 370hp RWD sports car is hardly a sensible choice, but hey, life's for living, right?!

The thing is, as already discussed in the thread on dynamic suspension, having it does not necessarily translate to comfort. It may just be a fixed setting that simply adapts to the road conditions giving you a more planted, dynamic ride.

I have it on my GTI and there is a marked difference in ride quality between comfort and sport. At the same time, being active dampers, even in comfort mode it still drives and handles really well.

Anyways, I guess time will tell if the system has been implemented the same as my GTI and as it is in the M235i.

It says: Adaptive M suspension is standard equipment...I think that is a mistake as there is officially no adaptive suspension for the M2...

So somebody else said in the other thread, but again, based on what verifiable source? At the end of the day I concede that what I was given may not end up being correct, but in the absence of anything else I'll take the official promotional material provided by an M Sales Specialist over what is speculated on a forum.

Exactly. We are often quick to beleive what our fellow forum goers are saying, but a healthy dose of skepticism is appropriate. This marketing documentation is much more official than any of the contrary sources I have seen.

Could be that the adaptive suspension is only standard for the EU market, not NA.

I hope adaptive suspension is not standard. I'm sure it's not.

Talk about a slap in the face. They even call out the Non-M mirrors in the brochure.

Very interesting about the adaptive suspension - good news to me if I decide to go with the car.

Given all the bitching on this forum, I couldn't help but LOL at the bit highlighting the "wing mirrors" on the 9th pic.

Mostly aesthetics only gripes:
Mirrors...le sigh

Side M Gills...just for appearances. Thought this car was for performance. Form before function i guess. Thanks AutoZone! Good for 5-8hp I bet.

Exclusive BMW M instrument panel with illuminated white dials. Where? Ohhhh wait are these designers Cleveland Clowns fans? It's an DIFFERENT EXCLUSIVE shade of orange lighting this year. ohhhhhhh my bad. I really really wanted white backlit lighting.

DCT. No individual programmability like the F8x??

AS. No individual programmability like the F8x??

What exactly is "open pore" carbon fiber? Is it the same crap on the E9x interiors?
Do you think the climate control illumination will be white?

I know it has been said many times before, but why couldn't we get a few touches of proper M? These gripes are small in detail, but make loads of difference.
Mirrors are mirrors.
Ok, functioning M gills...yes that costs more design. But you had to design from the beginning anyway since the body panels are different.
How much are friggen LED light bulbs and gauges cluster cut outs?
DCT and AS programming. F8x has it. And doesn't the m2 us all the under-pinnings from the F8x?

I'm sure once I get to drive mine, initially it won't matter. But just like some people that didn't get AS on their F8x, they will long to have that button space filled.

I haven't seen fuel consumption or maybe I missed it. Not that I care but just curious about it since it's a N55 engine

The press release, as far as I remember, did not mention Adaptive suspension. That's the source. It is not a speculation.

Fuel consumption numbers are in the 4th pic: "M2 Performance and Technical Highlights".

Keep in mind these are European numbers and not US.

Used this conversion calculator to figure out what that would be for US MPG.

UK MPG 35.8 = US MPG 29.8 w/DCT
UK MPG 33.2 = US MPG 27.6 w/o DCT

The only reason for not having adaptive suspension is to save a few bucks for those planning to install an aftermarket suspension.

UK economy in addition to being based on imperial gallons is most likely a milder test than in the US where the EPA reduces window sticker numbers with a fudge factor.

If thats the case that would be a pretty sizable improvement over the m235i (which officially is 22 combined) and for me warrants the increased price alone! haha this way I won't feel as bad about stomping on the throttle frequently

I'm rather excited to see the gauges in orange. Probably one of my least favorite things about my brother's m235i is how hard it is to read the white backlit gauge cluster.

----

I'm still patiently waiting to see how autorev matching manuals will work on the M2. My understanding is that it can be disabled with the sport+ throttle setting in the f80s.

Doubtful we'll get that level of steering/throttle/suspension customization and if I'm stuck in a no TC setting to have no rev matching I'll be quite conflicted. It'd be one thing if this would be the only manual car I'll drive regularly, but my family loves to share cars, all but one of them is a manual. I would venture a guess the different driving style required for the M2 will be... annoying to say the least.

Thanks for posting the info,it will be interesting to see if this turns out to be correct and the M2 will have the adaptive m suspension.I still don't really care because I only plan on driving the car in the firm sport suspension setting, which is what the standard suspension will be,if the car doesn't come with the adaptive m suspension.

Thanks for posting this as per the request from the Adaptive suspension thread!

it is good to see Adaptive written up here, but equally strange its missing from the main press release i.e. like M compound brakes are mentioned.
