BMW M2 (F87) launch colors and latest N55 engine info

Today is a good M2 news day!! My sources, deep within BMW HQ have told me some very interesting M2 news.

COLORS

The BMW M2 initial color offered when it begins production in November will be:

Alpine White
Black Sapphire metallic
Long Beach Blue metallic
Mineral Grey metallic

I am sure later on in the M2's production, more colors will be added. I would like to hear which color you guys would like (and why), so be sure to vote in the poll above.

So, these are the four colors in which the M2 will be built at SOP. But hey, it's more colors than we got with the 1M! And we ARE getting a BLUE!

ENGINE

I also have some news about the M2 engine.

Again, the engine will be an N55 and it will produce 370 PS (DIN) (= 365 hp) and 465Nm torque (= 343 lb-ft). The engine will also feature an "over boost" of +35Nm (25 lb-ft), in the low to mid range rpms. This is similar to our beloved 1M.

UPDATE May 7th, 2015

INTERIOR

Found out another interesting tidbit today... as some of you already guessed... the interior will only be available in BLACK with BLUE accent stitching. No other interior will be offered. Who says history doesn't repeat itself!

Bummer about no Donington at launch...

Given that limited palette, I'd have to go MG or BSM.

Long Beach Blue by a million mile for me.

Smells like the 1M all over again. Guess there's a reason they called it Pyrat 2

Pretty boring lineup of colors but it would be between AW or the Blue for me.

Would definitely like to see the M2 in Sakhir Orange... I think Carbon Black & Imola Red options would look great too. Can't forget Mineral White either.

Sakhir Orange and 385HP would have been ideal. I've decided to wait at least one full year and see what people think of the car before trying to get my hands on one.

Hopefully we'll get more news in the coming weeks regarding the weight, CF bits (if any) etc.

I will have to see the car in LBB before I jump on it. I have always been a fan of BMW blues. Would definitely consider another Laguna seca blue or sakhir orange.

No Donington Grey, no Sakhir Orange

Was looking forward to a Donington Grey M2 with SO inside.

Seeing TV is out of the question. I wouldn't mind seeing Imola red, Sakhir Orange, or Austin Yellow (as many will disagree on this one.)

Would Tanzanite blue be too much to ask? a red color would be nice, preferably a darker red

Also, doesn't the M235i have around 330 ft/lbs of torque? An increase of about 10 ft/lbs for an M car seems pretty weak.

I hope long beach is added to the F8x

But I do think the M2 will look awesome in all those colors.

While mineral gray is a nice color, I wish there was an M specific gray for this and the f8x.

As stated, donington would be great

It does, thus the over boost function DINAN needs to jump on this quick.

I would go white with M performance stripes for the retro CSL style flare.

As stated before, blue velvet, techno violet, a dark metallic green, imola, would all be hot and my dream bmw colours

I like LSB, but I don't know if it will suit the car!

Where are the interior specs? cloth? leather?

Hopefully tons of development have been thrown into the chassis.

Mechanical LSD or electric? Adjustable sway bar settings and things would be epic.

hopefully it's because the M2 is lighter and BMW doesn't think it needs as much torque

A pretty naff colour selection and pretty naff specifications. I would want austin yellow or valencia orange but I'm not sure it's worth going for an M2 now.

"overboost" is BMW speak for "same marginal intercooler on the current N55"

Crap...add that to the mod list.

I can't say that I didn't find these color choices highly disappointing.

Sometimes no news is good news
