YouTube is blocked at work, can you summarize in a few words if it's worth it?

I'm gonn say I wouldn't expect a K&N to be worth it.
However I wouldn't mind seeing a dyno done with stock filter, then K&N, then no filter at all.

On my newly acquired M2, I installed a drop-in K&N filter at about 150 miles, unfortunately, before reaching 200 miles, I got a Check Engine Light. The car has been at the dealership since yesterday and they're telling me that I have an overheated crank hose that needs to be replaced. Not saying that the K&N caused it but the CEL came up within less than 50 miles after installing it. I did some search online and found that the OIL in the filter could trigger the CEL and may affect your MAF. I find it hard to believe, I've had a K&N filter on all my previous cars and never had an issue but thought I would caution everyone considering one to do a little research. My situation again may or may not be related but awfully close to suspect it!!!

If you see the video that is what he was against, the oil on the filter. He washed it off completely to avoid getting anything on the MAF.

I've always believed it doesn't improve whp like they say but it does enhance the sound of the intake. But like someone posted it would be interesting to see a side by side dyno run.

aFe 31-10197 Magnum Flow OER Pro DRY S Air Filter for BMW X6 L6-3.0L

I have run the above dry filter in both my X4 and M235i with a combined 40k miles with not a single problem.

Have a spare for when my M2 arrives.

If you were too lazy to watch or can't , he basically believes there is no performance increase just better intake sound and exhaust note. He also advised to use degreaser and hot water to clean the oil off the filter (and dry it) before install to avoid MAF failure

lol. Seems he did but then backed off that claim later. I enjoyed the video for some odd reason. Even though 50% of it was him washing the filter and talking shit about the oil on the filter lol

The oil on the K&N and foam filters is to trap the dirt, i.e. filter

Dynos of "performance filters" have been beaten to death over the years. The only improvement is sound at the expense of increased dirt in the engine.

increased air flow = bigger holes = more dirt can get through.

The other way to increase air flow is to increase surface area. The paper has more surface area than the K&N.

Yes, oil will kill the MAF. And based on what I've been reading it appears the M2 MAF is closer to the box than in the past. Haven't confirm as it would require me to get off my butt and open the hood.

Lastly, you guy probably know more than me, but my understandng of turbo vs. NA is that the improvements are between the turbo and engine, e.g. intercooler, which of course assumes the turbo is getting the proper amount of air
