Why four wheel drive? just slap on a set of Hakkas in the winter.

what if the rear wheels was stuck in some deep snow? Rwd with snows are OK in the city most of the time but if you venture out than awd with snows can't be beat.

The M235/M240i is the best DD for someone that can only have 1 car imo

My dealer had a manual M2 that they were selling for MSRP but I ended up getting a massive discount on my M240i that came to close to 13% factoring in monthly incentives, fleet and MSRP discount. Plus my m240i is pretty bare bones so even the base price is a lot less than the DCT M2

The wait time for building my car was about 2 months vs the much longer wait for the M2.

If they'd cost pretty much the same and had the same wait time I'd have taken the M2 obviously.

Money no object? Both! But, I needed to combine daily driver with weekend fun, so the M235i was perfect. If I was seriously tracking it, I'd put M4 control arms and camber plates on with 19" wheels. Or maybe go full coilovers. If I had it to do again I would likely go with the M240i as the adjustable suspension offers the best of all worlds and the price difference is real.

After driving a GT4 around for 6 months, as a DD the M2 is going to feel like an S class.

I don't want my sport cars "comfortable" and able to soak up potholes with aplomb. Give me the full experience. In the M2s case, it is still a sporty luxury coupe, and will be perfect as a DD for me.

You'll be fine.

I daily drove an E46 M3 in the Philly burbs for 8 years, and the past few with an open-diff 135. Never missed a day, and went in through the biggest of storms. Avid skier so I also chased snow into the Poconos, into New England and Canada, fairly often.

Honestly if you're looking to be able to go out when storms are at their worst/before plowing...consider tossing weight in the trunk. A couple big dumbbells, bags of sand, etc. Makes a big difference.

I find the damping on the M suspension to be really good. It's more forgiving and (obviously) planted than the suspension in the 4 series set to sport+.

Agreed and that's my plan....2- 50lb bags of salt in the trunk combined with x ice rubber, manual tranny, and e-diff should suffice.

That should inspire as much, if not more confidence than the AWD/all-seasons that I've driven the past 3 years.

Assuming both are realistic choices for the person, they should just test drive both of them. If the M2 doesn't jump out at you, then obviously the M240i is the better choice. The M2 can really only win the argument behind the wheel, not on paper.

The M240i is $45,445 with destination. Add HK, Leather, and Nav and its $49,720. Deals are available to easily get a conservative 7% off. Many people get much more off. Brings price to $46,239

That's $11,456 difference give or take.
I got the M240 for that reason. That and I wanted the new B58 engine. M2 was offered to me for 55k and my M240 was about 11k less. So I went that route.
