Saw Tesla Model 3 on the road for the first time
Thoughts on your end? I thought it was interested. kind of reminded me of the Kia Stinger's shape and style.

The shop that does ceramic coating on my car had around 10 Model 3s in the shop (when I was there last week - they've worked on way more than that).
Profile is good - front quarter panel from an angle reminds me of a lotus (I know, weird). Rear is ok. Front is horrible - looks squished. |

i have seen a few around, they do look like the model s. i wish they were a little smaller. i really hope tesla hits a home run with making them for $35k (when those lesser models come out). they look great and are practical.
if the chevy bolt wasn't such an ugly car, i think it would sell better. it basically has all the features of the model 3, but no auto pilot.

We have a guy at work that has one; I like it. They are becoming increasingly common in So Cal. Definitely not an enthusiast car but is impressive for what it is.

Agree. No one buys a Tesla because they are particularly good looking or have nice, quality interiors. They buy them because of the technology.

No, I'd say those are definite factors that contribute. If it looked like the EV1...

The Bolt looks like ass. No one wants it because they seriously f'ed it up. If they'd just made a toned down version of the concept, they'd be gold.

Looks aside, Tesla is to today what Hummer was to the mid-2000s: The car that those who care about image in certain parts of the country have to have. This is, at this stage, the number 1 reason it outsells competitors.
That's almost completely due to three things: - Elon's absolutely mastery of building hype around idealism - The anti-establishment tact Tesla regularly takes, and the PR it generates (sales model, gigafactories, perceived independence from regulatory this-and-that thanks to SpaceX and charging network, and, more recently, the Puerto Rico hurricane outreach) - The undeniable consumer power of both the progressive Baby Boomer and the nouveau-riche, tech-savvy Millennial Any other upstart American carmaker that would have gone through the hiccups Tesla has gone (and is going) through would be DOA by now. Just one dude's opinion. It's glorious to watch ... but remember how many faults Hummers had, how quickly competition caught up and surpassed it in its niche, and how no one has been willing to touch one with a 10-foot pole since soon after Hummer went belly-pan up in 2010.

Saw one yesterday. No clue why its a status symbol. Model S has some interesting lines, Model 3 is nondescript and utterly snooze worthy. I actually think the Audi A4 has stronger design language/risks.
Looking forward to what Volvo will do with the EV market if they actually do switch over to electric only.

They're all over LA. The one feature I do like about the Model 3 is that it doesn't come with a key fob - you just use your phone to unlock/start the car. That's something that should become the norm eventually.

Any other American, European, Japanese car maker that would have received the subsidies that Tesla has would be doing just as well. It's an overpriced virtue signaling car for those that want to make a statement about their "green" credentials and every American is paying for them.
