"Mark Reuss, GM's top product development exec and a huge race fan and proponent of motorsports, was driving the car on the pace laps when it went wrong."
Ouch. You'd think he, of all people, would know how that car handled. |

Ouch, I guess he got it in the marbles? I'm surprised he didn't have a helmet on, my neck hurts just watching that.

Simple, one of his tires was 1.4 psi too low...

I think it may have been less embarrassing if he had shit his pants instead. At least he’s owning it and seems ok:

Awful. He did not get out of it once traction was lost.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm not sure if he was thinking he could spin the car around quickly or what.
If he would have gone two feet in, he probably would have stopped before hitting the wall or at least not hit it as hard. Based on his statement, he knows how embarrassing this is for him, the Corvette community and GM. He has the experience - it happens.

That's a real possibility, well, surely he had grip, but not as much as an indy/F1 car and less than necessary to take that corner due to the limited aero at the speed. The current Z06 w/Z07, ZR-1 and ZL-1 1LE have insane amounts of mechanical grip, more than cars costing 3x as much, but you'll never make up for poor driving (until it's an autonomous car).

I'd be laughing more if I didn't know that I could see myself doing the same thing on that turn. Apparently several Indy cars lost it there that day. The slight elevation change and changing surface condition causing the rear to get light was probably the culprit.

seems like his foot was still on the gas pedal without any steering wheel reaction.. yes it embarrassing otherwise pace car can crash also since its not a race car in the end for high paced cornering.. life..
