I think the reason for the recent "market cooling" is due to the rumors of the s55 upgrade model...
could this new rumor be leaked on purpose so that it doesn't further eat into current model potential sales?... Or even potential CS sales?
The consensus on this forum seems to be "I'll hold off and wait for the next model to come out" which I'll admit is what I am doing. Now I'm about to jump ship and try to snag a GT3 in manual.

So where are we now...

M2 Competition on its way

M2 CSL cancelled

Why are we still using the M2 CS name?

It could. While the M2 is a great car I? find it hilarious that in Canada people are trying to sell these on auto trader w 10,000kms plus at $70k or more when you can buy it brand new at that price. No wonder there's a bunch of used ones not selling. I? think people had hoped this would turn out like the 1M - not sure why. The supply wasn't capped like that car.

I think M2 Comp = M2 CS and they'll be dropping the Comp name instead.

Compared to the US there are very few brand new M2's on dealer lots in Canada because our supply is much much much lower. Most people are however choosing to wait the 3-4 months to get new one vs buying used for reasons you mentioned above.

Why? Because a few in the USA who have never driven one and will never own one base that off of mag reviews? Please link "owners" selling due to being unhappy.

Could it simply be that we will get the M2 Compitition (new base) and the optional M2 CS as a package, or (in BMW parlance) “line”. In other words is this the equivalent of the 330i vs 330is, or the old 330 ZHP (the only car I wish I had never sold.)

This would give the CS the big brakes and M4 seats, but otherwise mostly the same car.

Maybe the M5 hybrid will be called M550e?

Could there be a B58 version of the 2019 M2 and a S55 CS version?

Complete guesswork follows:

BMW is going to replace the N63 with a new V8 that uses a 48V system and integrated starter generator, similar to Mercedes' new M256 I6 (and, later, to migrate to their I4 and V8). As a result, the S63 will be replaced by a new M version of this engine, resulting in what is technically a mild-hybrid M5. So, little would change - no plug-in charging, not even pure-electric driving - just electric assist.

I agree GTS owners i know love their cars. That being said, there are quite a few GTS for sale below MSRP. Some can be had for sub $100k. While I do not agree with it, many Americans who would buy a GTS, in fact do take magazine and press reviews extremely seriously.

The GTS is a car that needs to be dialed in and tested on a track to get the full experience. Simply driving it out of the box, on the street, will not let the car shine and that is exactly what the journalists did and that is exactly what they would do with an 'M2 CSL'. I am very sad that in America our demand for cars like this is really shrinking and it is being more difficult for manufacturers to make them.

We live in the age of being internet car enthusiasts. This forum is an example of this. I connect with more enthusiasts online that I ever would by going to car meets. Because we all connect online, we focus on a lot of things that lend themselves to our communication platform. Numbers. HP, 0-60, laptimes, Price etc. are all constant topics of discussion and other things that contribute to a cars experience, which are often harder to describe, are often left off the table. In this age so many cars put down great numbers and it is often those harder to describe factors which truly make a car speak to me personally and often I have to drive or touch something to get an understanding of them.

I do not think the GTS is impressive based off of its press numbers, off its price, (based off its relative competition both in price and in performance) but after spending time with one and even getting a bit of track time in one, I think it is an awesome car. There are so many amazing details in the car and the more I look at it and nerd out the more I am blown away that the current BMW actually made it. Its an awesome vehicle and it is a bummer the m2 will not receive the similar treatment.

M cars used to be the benchmark for performance. It was the car other manufactures strived to beat but always fell short. Now, it seems everyone is beating it and our only defense as BMW owners is " does your mustang have as nice of an interior or XXXX piece of technology?" . SAD.

I wasn’t interested in an M2 CSL anyway,so this news is no big deal for me.I’m still excited for the M2 Competition.

Probably another instance of Sales Executives driving priorities.

BMW is most successful when they let their engineers and designers build the car they want. The 1M Pyrat was a non-sanctioned project built after-hours by M engineers with leftover parts. It's now one of BMWs most iconic cars in their entire history. Not because executive leadership asked for it, but because the engineers were passionate about it.

To the BMW M engineers; Build the CSL anyway.

Damn shame to about the CSL. I was really clinging to the idea of this being a new school version of the E46 CSL. Sad times...

Here's a random data point: both people I know who bought M4 GTSs sold them within the first month. One of the guys didn't even want to bother driving the car one last time before the new owner came to pick it up. I got to drive that one and found the suspension surprisingly nicely set up (given the negative press response to the car) but ultimately I found the car hugely, hugely underwhelming compared to the GT3. Both of those guys now own Porsches, if that tells you anything.

It tells me a lot. The GTS is completely overpriced for what it is, period.

The coolest thing about that car is the water injection system, and that’s not even novel.

So are you saying that there will be an M5 hybrid while F90 M5 is still in its production cycle, ala the LCI F90 M5 changing drivetrains? Or do you mean the next generation G90 M5 will be the one that's hybrid? I think hybrid M5 will be a possibility but M3 hybrid won't due to the fact that batteries are too heavy still. But for a car like the M5 which is still about 4,400lbs, adding a 100lbs for a battery wont make too much more difference.
It will be like the Panamera hybrid and be slower up top and on track lol .

If any of you are surprised at this I have one word for you:

TESLA

Elon really lit a fire under everyone's ass. The term "Game Changer" gets thrown about quite a bit but it is an understatement in Musk's case. He's doing it to the space launch industry and he's doing it to the automotive industry as well. Who's next?!

The Panny E-Hybrid is over 5,000lbs I think. Lol! Yeah I know what you mean. Batteries need to get lighter for sure! Lol!

Hope things are well with you old friend.
