Did he state it was due to the gauge issue? Apparently if it is, it’s simply a software fix.

Here's a high-res pic of the M240i cluster which is the same as the M2 except for the color scheme. Notice the bottom portion is pixelated, because that's the part which is LCD while the speedometer/tachometer are backlit analog gauges.

MY 2018 / LCI M2 does not have digital gauges

His exact words were "Potential software error for LCD display "

Now let's see what the term LCD does to this thread

I just had the 1200 mile run in completed. Recall was a simple software update. I had zero problems prior to nor any post update.

On another topic... what stop sale ^?

It is when the dealer is not allowed to sell the car due to a known issue. Happened with the M2 rear diff and happens on other cars sometime. Basically BMW says "this thing is broken and we don't want the customer taking it until we fix or figure out a fix"

on another note, everyone keeps calling this a recall - which it is not. A recall is a serious thing that involves the government getting involved, lots of stuff being published, bla bla bla. I forget the actual term for this however

Thanks...

I know what a stop sale is.

I missed the stop sale on the .1 GT3

I was asking why there is a 'stop sale'

FWIW the Service Advisor called it a recall. And, I am not concerned with what the update is called or if the display is LED.

Update: CA said the issue is being fixed with a software update. Nothing major, they just used the word recall and stop sale which blew it out of proportion.

Email from my CA (copy paste):

"Confirmation received that your M2 is also affected by the recall. There is a Stop Delivery in effect. The software update is available. Just a matter of time before update and delivery."

Rec'd this last Friday...still no word on whether my car has had the update applied and is on it's way from the port.

Guys this is going to sounds crazy but maybe they are referring to... the DIGITAL... part of the dash?? Could it be???

Seriously. I don't see what else it would be. Probably the stupid eco gauge or something.

2018 LCI Software Recall

Took mine in for break in service and have to leave the car there overnight for a software recall. The car has been perfect, no issues. Any one knows any thing about this recall?

"The display may not wake up from standby mode or may not indicate operating conditions and warning symbols as required."

Update Done

Just took my 18 in yesterday for the 1200 mile break-in service, SA stated there was an update for the gauge cluster when I dropped it off.

When I picked it up I reviewed the paperwork and asked about the update as it was not annotated. This SA says "oops", I missed that and sent the car back.

I waited a couple hours for them to do the software update.

I had no problems with the dash before the service.

There's no way you should have to leave it overnight for that.

Don't freak him out. It takes a couple hours and maybe the timing wasn't wear they could have it done in time. Nothing to sweat.

They just need to keep it overnight to verify the update was applied correctly.
