Hey Glen,

I think it's about time that you invest in a gimbal.

Nice work!

I am just about at 18 months and the odometer is a little over 25K. Maybe I'm driving too much...

Glenn, How do you feel about Active Sound Design as implemented in the M2? You didnt mention it in your review so Im curious if youve disabled or are fine with it, or consider it a not factor?

Great question, You get use to it and it becomes a non factor. Real sound would be best but I'd rather have amplified sound than no sound.

That was my complaint with my 1M. Everyone would complement how good the car sounds but I could never hear anything with the windows up.

I think that's why Active Sound Design exists. Lots of manufacturers do it.

Glenn

True, but I dont know of any who implement it quite like BMW, with engineered sound pumped through the speakers. At any rate, first I bought a coding setup to code it out; then I bought the bypass harness. Then, guess what?? It doesnt seem to be bothering me as much anymore! I think Im semi subconsciously driving more in comfort vs sport mode, however, as a result of the step up in cabin volume as a result of ASD programming. I can handle comfort mode asd fine. Its when I hit sport mode it gets a little annoying.. I suppose if i drove only in Sport mode, Id be getting used to that too. Kind of ironic!

I wanted to hear what the real engine was doing even if fake. Also I don't want to hear a drone because I find it annoying and competes with anything I am playing through the stereo.

I miss not hearing my turbo spool up! As for the stereo, luckily, there is plenty of reserve power in our HK systems such that even in sport+ mode, I dont have crank the sound system above about halfway to hear it clearly.. Getting used to it.

I get it that it’s his YouTube channel but I have to say the frequency and lack of content is what makes the videos lame. Yet I watch them each time he posts. He’s selling the m2 so maybe there won’t be a 20 month review

In the "Lame Car Video" category, there is a lot of competition

Chris Harris and 1 or 2 other people make content worth watching, sometimes also Demuro, but from there it is a steep plunge downwards.

Even the former print media articles (R&T, C&D) are very spotty, probably because their source of revenue is largely gone now that print advertising is going the way of the passenger pigeon. It's hard to get good content out of monkeys.

I can't take DeMuro's "Why (insert car) is worth $500,000!" videos anymore. If they were just "why this car is cool" videos I'd be more amenable, but most of those cars aren't actually "worth" that money. But when there's so much liquidity flowing through the system that even Austria can peddle a 100-year bond at 2.1% and actually have it be oversubscribed then sure, some of that money will blindly find its way into everything from rare art to borderline rare automobiles and all of a sudden every car which was cool at one point is now the new Ferrari Daytona.

I've watched all of Glenn's M2 videos and I got something useful from all of them.

I think that DeMuro has just run out of material. His contract with Autotrader must require him to make a lot of videos, so he's just winging it, and doesn't really have anything to say most of the time.

For me, I like the Motor Trend videos, both Head to Head, and Ignition. Also, Alex on Autos, while verbose, gives extremely complete and detailed reviews, in 4k on youtube.

The channels I like are the ones that are not updated that often. Usually people who are not doing it for a living, it's a hobby or side business.

Brandon Pierce. This guy mostly does videos on off-road stuff, but he has some on gt-350, gt4, m2, e92 m3, m5, etc.
https://youtu.be/LX3I6-ux0UE

Savage Geese. These guys sometimes do long term ownership review.
https://youtu.be/1pr0TRvsyG8

Smoking tire once in a while has an interesting car.

Obsessed garage, that guy can just talk while he's detailing a car..

And of course I watch Glen's videos. Glen if you're reading though I do think your videos often repeat too much information that you already went over in previous videos.

I agree on both counts - production quality is very high on the MT videos, like watching a car TV show. Alex on Autos does a nice job of being objective, hitting the high points and low, never sounding like he's trying to sell something. And you're right, he is filming in 4K - on our TV his reviews look fantastic.

Another one we like, though he's been quiet lately, is savagegeese. His production quality is very high, and his "in the shop" segments in each review where he details the cars from under a lift, with attention paid to the suspension setup, camber adjustments, and undercarriage details are very well done while also often being humorous. He's also not afraid to tell it like it is - good and bad.

Have you ever seen carguru's Tesla videos? He's the guy who rebuilt a Tesla from the ground up using salvage parts. I don't know if he is doing the actual playing, but some of the videos have him playing music, like the theme to "Titanic", on a flute but so badly that we literally laugh until we're crying with stomach cramps. He loves ranking on Tesla's failure to support owners who have salvage cars, but he does it in such a humble, funny way that we play every video just hoping he'll break out the flute.
