After break-in period, feeling a bit disappointed

I reached 1200+ miles yesterday and today I decided to go 100% throttle for the first time since owning my MT 2018 M2. I honestly expected the rear wheels to spin with the traction control off in first and/or second gear (I have the Conti's), but was disappointed on a dry, sunny, 70 degree day. Anyone care to share their experience with the first time(s) you went 100% throttle? Is my disappointing experience unique?

I was disappointed initially. Coming from a car with massive turbo lag, there wasn't the kick in the pants feel of nothing, nothing, nothing then rocket ship.

However, the M2 feels really linear so it's deceptive. You look down and you're doing 100 but you think you only made it to 60.

I mostly only see the traction control light flash on shifts between 1-2 and 2-3. However dropping the clutch as mentioned is a sure fire way of destroying $1000 worth of rubber in 2 minutes.

The point is, though, this car isn't about burning the tires off. Go buy an M3/4 or Hellcat if you want those cheap thrills. This car is about being an extension of you in every way. You want it to turn, it turns. You come in hot, that's fine too. You need to steer with your right foot? Go right ahead and even sag the tail out while keeping things under control easily. It's a magical, predictive, confidence inspiring driving experience for everything except drag racing.

With the wheels not spinning, the power is getting down. That's a great dynamic that the car possesses. It's dialed in. As stated above, buy an M3/4 if you want to spin the wheels. Those owners (and reviewers) have been bitching about that constantly since 2014.

Why would anyone want to abuse their own car like that.

It's not made to be treated like a dragster.

It's because you beat on it too hard during break-in, and now there's nothing left to surprise you.

If you have had other sports cars before, you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect by using HP to weight ratio. No magic to knowing ahead of time what the car will do.

I'm only making a recommendation because of his disappointment in expectation

I personally would not. As an owner of an e90 m3, I'd be in the shop once a week for tires and a diff repair. As the other members above stated, if I wanted a car to consistently burn through tires, I'd buy a Mustang GT350

I know it is going to be a big awakening from my 500 rwhp M4 to this guy but I am looking forward to the results in the mountains. The M4 was just too big

I have the Dinan Sport tuner set to Sport+ mode, and drive the car in Sport+ as well.

With the cooler weather the rear of the car (Conti's) is dancing all over the place from a 2nd gear roll. No need for clutch dumps here.

Bro, It's an Mcar. Drop the clutch and live a little. It won't kill the car.

What did you have? I have a 1992 AWD Eclipse with 540 whp that I DON'T drag race - it's set up for open tracking. I am really happy with the superior handling (among many other things) of the M2 - this is just the first thing that I am disappointed in with the M2.

I Drove my car harder than most through the break in period. Nothing over 5500 rpm until 1000 miles, but definitely a lot of full throttle 2nd and 3rd gear.

No hard shifts, I went easy on the clutch, still do. Initially I was impressed with acceleration over time I got use to it and wanted more.

I added Fabspeed Sport Cat and Dinan Sport Tuner, coded off ASD. Between the sound and power difference I think it's perfect now. It "feels" more than fast enough. With ASD off cruising with a quiet cabin to accelerating and actually hearing the turbo/exhaust really helps my perception.

Like everyone has mentioned the car has so many other great qualities. If you feel as though it could use more power ( a lot of us do) just get some simple bolts on, it made all the difference for me.

Did you do your break-in maintenance yet? According to my CA, the break-in maintenance also involves a software update on the engine, which results in +50HP.

Easy: allow yourself from time to time to put things into perspective by driving low performance cars too. You'll appreciate each time you get back behind the wheel of your M2. When I step into one of my other cars, few things happen when I floor the throttle and when I brake hard, wiggly-wobbly body roll through corners, 'pillow hop' feeling when driving over potholes, the quiet sound, etc.

Your CA is sadly mistaken, with an emphasis on sadly.

Go slap your CA. Hard. Then tattoo #dumbass on his arm so he or she doesn't forget.

Well.. the N55 doesn't exactly deliver at the top end so you aren't going to get that "omg" rush to redline that S engines of days past used to give. As for lighting up the tires.. say what? Sounds like you've been watching too many youtube reviews. The car doesn't really have the power to break traction in a straight line without launching.

That's a key thing btw.. the launch. Pretty much all M cars seem somewhat slow unless you launch them. The car that was the most like this was the E46 M3. When you got a solid start, it felt fast as hell.

Personally I never found the M2 fast. It just has character. I'll be ordering a DP and FMIC here pretty soon to go with the Stage 1 Dinan tune. 410hp is probably about the right figure for the chassis in my estimation.
