M2 LCI - pops and bangs

Is the rumour true? that it pops and bangs less more then pre LCI?
Typical "traction-mode" sound still there?
Loud BANG when you release throttle at 2nd gear at 4500-4800rpm?

Help us out guys!
Thanks!

Curious to know where you heard this? My M2 arrives in December.

On M2 forum Germany.
Some say it's louder, some say it nearly don't pops and bang...

That's what I found so attractive with Mperformance exhaust. Loud burbles in traction mode, which sounds like thunder.
And loud bang in sport or sport+ in 2nd gear at 4500-4800rpm

I have the LCI with the stock exhaust. I'd say there aren't really any "bangs". You still have little pops and crackles though which sound great. Traction mode still works. Looking forward to the M Performance exhaust though.

I have an early my'17 EU spec and now with the latest firmware (my'18) installed.
The car keeps on burbling in Traction and Sport+ but much LESS loudly than before. Pops now are almost disappeared (even though the HJS 300 + Remus catback).
It's a shame for my ears but the whole engine management seems better refined.

Got an early my17 with the lci software as well. Still as loud as before with pops and bangs (oem exhaust with 300cpsi hjs)

I got my 18 LCI US on the 24th of September The exhaust sounds great much deeper than my 235. But when I took the cat out of the 235 it sounded pure awesome. Pops & bangs were much more pronounced. I can't wait to get the cat out of the 2 it should be real impressive except when I start it, my neighbors are not fans at all. That's the only comparo I can give you I have to find someone else with a 16 or 17 to compare to mine.

It should backfire when you WOT from 4,000 - 4,800 and then let off throttle.
Make sure you Don't go over 4,800. All BMW M cars I believe are programmed like this, alongside no burbles over 5,000 RPM. as the DCT starts to 'fart' past 5,000.

For the backfire, you must be in sport/sports+

Emphasis on the ' Fart ' crucial BMW feature, should feature in the original handbook really.

6MT farts whenever if you give it enough beans. I still can't seem to reproduce the afterfire/backfire, the super loud single pop. That thing gets me everytime and gives me a huge ass grin lol

The backfire only works in first and second gear. Just floor it to ~5000 and let go of the throttle completely. Timing is important. If you go over 5000 it won't happen. 4800 is probably a good time to let go.

Also I think based on how you drive prior to manipulating the backfire affects it somewhat but I could be wrong. Example is if you have been driving aggressively and that makes the backfire more eager to pop and is louder. Also being in sport+ makes it slightly louder. I also notice sometimes the backfire happens on the left exhaust and sometimes right side and perhaps both. Don't know how that works exactly.

No you're absolutely right. I'm pretty certain it's all dependent on how much unburnt fuel is being dumped into the exhaust.

I've noticed that when i'm in sport + and floor it and then let go of the throttle and hit the traction/MDM button, the pops and bangs are enormous, but only if i've just floored it to 3500ish rpm in sport + and then changed to MDM.

It takes very specific conditions to make certain sounds.

The more you play with the throttle and the "maps" then more things you discover and you will begin to learn how to make the noises you want on demand.

That's exactly what it feels like. I've got one hand on the steering wheel and the other is constantly going back and forth from the Sport/Comfort button to the MDM button.

Only annoying thing is always seeing the message pop up on idrive about traction mode. That and if there's a passenger in the car you probably look like you're spastically hitting buttons. Don't mind doing it when i'm alone in the car tho

WTF? I never heard that before! What mods do u have besides the downpipe? BTW I tried hitting the traction mode after I let off the throttle in sport/sport+ and it activates a unique pop and burble. It's like a button that activates pops and burbles on demand. lol

Not my car but it's a catless downpipe in combination with an M performance exhaust with the valves open. It sounds like gun fire lol.

Yes, this is what i was talking about. You can make it happen whenever you want, you just have to know how to do it. Make sure you use the throttle to get you to the correct rpm and then it's just a matter of hitting the traction button. Once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature.

This guy installed pops and bangs on a catless Mperformance exhaust.

So stupid. Pops and bangs on M2 are spot on. This is ridiculous
