My LCI car has some nice pops and burbles in traction mode around 2000-2500rpm. sport and sport+ has less but has that 'brrrt' type noise when you accelerate reasonably hard and lift off around the 4000+ rpm area with some pops and burbles but not as much as traction mode low down. My nbt version is L17252I.
Out of interest how does the oem exhaust sound with downpipe on hard wot DCT gear changes? My previous m135i with 8at and downpipe gave off gunshot bangs in the above scenario. |

This might be a stupid question, i have an early 17' one of the last PRE LCI's
the weather app in my car has stopped working so they are suggesting a reset or an update but only to the idrive not to the engine so i was told it won't affect the sound of the exhaust only the sound of the interior speakers and idrive. my car is loud af with M performance exhaust i get all sorts of pops and bangs and crackles, if i did the update and lost all this i think i would lose my mind! can anyone clarify if the Idrive update affects the engine and exhaust? because i was told you have to do a seperate engine update for this to affect the noise of the car. |

I was driving in sport + mode keep in mind that if the egt or the inlet temps are too high the car won't do it (and it won't even burble anymore) |

I actually have gotten it to happen a few times now. Usually have to give a hard pull through 1st and 2nd and then lift and it'll bang once like a gunshot.

guys I discovered how to make my M2 LCI backfire (aka "gunshot bang") in a RELIABLE way.
the sound produced is exactly like the one captured by andrewc89 video. Thanks for showing the correct rpm range sir 2nd gear, sport mode, just below 4000rpm, floor it to 5000rpm and let go.... bam In my car, it only works in sport mode, not sport plus nor traction mode (haven't tried comfort or TC off). I tried in sport plus many many times but I was getting only a muffled sound and sometimes a "fart". Sport mode is the key PS: For reference, here's the pic of my NBTevo version... no idea what ISTEP/Frimware I have Last edited by Alby_416; 01-07-2018 at 06:24 PM.. |

Also, I noticed that I can make it backfire easier if I let off the gas exactly when the needle hits 4500rpm in 2nd gear... If I try to do it at 5000rpm it works maybe 1 out of 5 times.
I have DCT, not sure if that makes a difference compared to the MT. |

Car will backfire in Sport/Sport+ and DSC off (even more) rpms will vary in whether backfire bang or pops/crackle
