Same here... I would love to know the answer.

Also, the project according to the current schedule should be ending in 08/2018. That is till when there will be resources assigned to work on that car. This is around when production of the M2 Competition is slated to begin.

Will need to check if there is a project called the M2 Comp.
That would seem to validate that there were indeed three projects going on as had been reported here for quite some time. M2 Competition, M2 CS and M2 CSL. There were some indications that the CS was superseded by the CSL, but now that the CSL has been scrapped perhaps it's back on the table?

Seems like a lot of uncertainty, at least from the limited leaks we're getting. Uncertainty usually means cuts or compromises, although there's still a chance that's not the case. Hopefully you find some more info on the M2 Competition and soon!

Two months ago someone on a German BMW forum pointed out to have heard that BMW M has built and tested all conceivable M2 versions in the meantime. In the end it's up to BMW to decide which version (not) to release. Some projects don't make it to production (see here).

Early 2016 someone else reported that BMW M already tested an M2 with S55 engine back in 2015 (thus even before the official base M2 release), which reportedly happened to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife 8 seconds faster than the M4 (see here, here, here and here). And we recall that, back in the day, BMW insider Scott26 suggested in a couple of posts that two M2 versions were being developed at the same time: the regular version and a hardcore sibling.

Whatever happened to Scott26?He used to love posting his opinion on Bimmerpost.I assumed he would be posting quite a bit on this thread right now, with us being so close to the release date of the M2 Competition.

Gatte, that "M8" reference is by no means related to an M8 car. The "M" designation for metric screws indicates the nominal outer diameter of the screw in millimeters: an M8 screw has a nominal outer diameter of 8 millimeters. Brief: those are just references to screws ("Schraube").

It also appears to receive a completely new exhaust system. As stated, could be just for the CS and not for the M2 Competition. The wait is maddening...

There are parts for the F87CP that are also exhaust related.

Furthermore there is just one CS project. It could probably involve 2 different cars with the parts having CS suffix overlapping into the M2 competition. We should learn more fairly soon.

The wait seriously is maddening.

Am I understanding things correctly? Up to a few days ago, I thought we had pretty much settled that there's going to be the Competition M2 coming out, replacing the current M2, and then possibly a CS, which will be more like the M3 GTS, in that it won't have rear seats. There won't be 3 variants eventually, with the Comp (regular), a CS, AND a GTS...

From what has been said the last few days (all these parts and stuff), are we now speculating they might bring out a CS AND a GTS? The CS still having 4 seats? Or is the CS now being talked about the potential GTS version, with no rear seats?

I'd hate to get the Comp next year, to find out a CS is coming out a year later... The GTS, I won't care about, as I need 4 seats...

for any info.

The spy videos and pics would have shown a CS model with distinguishable CS aero pieces covered in camo. Like all the M4 CS test mules had. There is a reason the so-called CS spy videos show an otherwise stock looking M2. Many are still under the impression a Competition model is coming and now maybe a CS instead of CSL.

I thought the GTS moniker has been replaced by the CSL
And we now know the M2 CSL has been scrapped ?

So basically there is an M2 Competition and an M2 CS? Competition in 2018 and CS in 2019?

CSL = GTS In other words, no rear seats. Right?

So now it's looking more like the Competition and CS a year after it? I'd be pissed if that happens, LOL, as I've been holding out this year for the new M2 to come out, thinking that's as close to the CS we were going to get.

I wasn't fussed if after it the CSL without rear seats was coming, as I wouldn't want that anyway.

But if it ends up being the CS after Comp, I'll be pissed I didn't hold out longer!

According to this article (Dec 19, 2017):
https://www.motor.es/noticias/bmw-m2...201742209.html
  • M2 Competition replaces current M2 as "base" model (we knew this)
  • Work on M2 CSL was halted
  • M2 CS NOT EQUALS M2 Competition; M2 CS coming up after M2 Competition
  • M2 CS will not have rear seats, will have roll cage
  • BMW M4 GTS' successor will be M4 CSL

The article outlines rationale for the above.

If the info therein is accurate, we are getting an M2 Competition and an M2 CS.

Correct... Main issue I see they removed the CSL badge from the M2 is the fact that the M2 CSL (now M2 CS) and new M4 would arrive at the same time. With the poor sales of the M3/M4 within the F-Series, it is marketing and sales wise not smart to produce a new car and then next to that have a CSL-variant of a smaller version that "drives circles around" its bigger brother so to speak.

The communication wise not a smart thing to do. Also the return of the CSL badge needs to be on a hero model in the M3/M4 range, not on a M2. Also that might be a marketing decision looking at the history of the brand. I do agree it is crap, but be aware that BMW is here to make money first and then please the M fans.

i am trying to catch up after a 10 month M2 hiatus following a decesion hold off on ordering an M2 until the 2019 is released. i have read all of the above and understand that the base model is expected to be replaced with the Competition designation. I read an article from September suggesting the Competition would have limited production but this doesnt make sense if it is replacing the base model. I called my local dealership to be added to their waiting list for the Competition model. Currently, is the Competition model expected to be produced in similar numbers as the current base model?
