Seems like a lot of uncertainty, at least from the limited leaks we're getting. Uncertainty usually means cuts or compromises, although there's still a chance that's not the case. Hopefully you find some more info on the M2 Competition and soon! |

Early 2016 someone else reported that BMW M already tested an M2 with S55 engine back in 2015 (thus even before the official base M2 release), which reportedly happened to lap the Nürburgring Nordschleife 8 seconds faster than the M4 (see here, here, here and here). And we recall that, back in the day, BMW insider Scott26 suggested in a couple of posts that two M2 versions were being developed at the same time: the regular version and a hardcore sibling.

Gatte, that "M8" reference is by no means related to an M8 car. The "M" designation for metric screws indicates the nominal outer diameter of the screw in millimeters: an M8 screw has a nominal outer diameter of 8 millimeters. Brief: those are just references to screws ("Schraube").

Furthermore there is just one CS project. It could probably involve 2 different cars with the parts having CS suffix overlapping into the M2 competition. We should learn more fairly soon. The wait seriously is maddening. |

From what has been said the last few days (all these parts and stuff), are we now speculating they might bring out a CS AND a GTS? The CS still having 4 seats? Or is the CS now being talked about the potential GTS version, with no rear seats? I'd hate to get the Comp next year, to find out a CS is coming out a year later... The GTS, I won't care about, as I need 4 seats... for any info. |

So now it's looking more like the Competition and CS a year after it? I'd be pissed if that happens, LOL, as I've been holding out this year for the new M2 to come out, thinking that's as close to the CS we were going to get. I wasn't fussed if after it the CSL without rear seats was coming, as I wouldn't want that anyway. But if it ends up being the CS after Comp, I'll be pissed I didn't hold out longer! |

The article outlines rationale for the above. If the info therein is accurate, we are getting an M2 Competition and an M2 CS.

The communication wise not a smart thing to do. Also the return of the CSL badge needs to be on a hero model in the M3/M4 range, not on a M2. Also that might be a marketing decision looking at the history of the brand. I do agree it is crap, but be aware that BMW is here to make money first and then please the M fans. MR |

i am trying to catch up after a 10 month M2 hiatus following a decesion hold off on ordering an M2 until the 2019 is released. i have read all of the above and understand that the base model is expected to be replaced with the Competition designation. I read an article from September suggesting the Competition would have limited production but this doesnt make sense if it is replacing the base model. I called my local dealership to be added to their waiting list for the Competition model. Currently, is the Competition model expected to be produced in similar numbers as the current base model?
