How easy are they to install? I assume the car's got to be lifted / raised to remove the original and fit the new one?

Don't believe it needs to be lifted, but always easier if it is. I haven't swapped out the diffuser on my m2, but just based on my experience swapping out other diffusers on previous bimmers

IND has published some excellent instructions on how to swap out the standard diffuser for the BMW M Performance unit.

What's really helpful is that a number of folks from the forum have contributed to this with some great tips on how to remove the standard diffuser. I actually had to supply this to my BMW dealer who (incorrectly) told me that they needed to remove the entire bumper bar in order to fit the diffuser as the basis of their AUD$1k charge to fit the M Performance Diffuser!.

While I'd imagine that the installation instructions for the various diffusers are dependent on the manufacturer, the IND thread at least shows what needs to be done to remove the standard unit and its pretty easy.

Hope this helps!

Cheers,

Also believe I read somewhere that removing the clips with a trim remover worked like a charm.

It's anything but "easy." Doable, of course, but removing the middle section, even with a pry tool, is not easy because the rear bumper flexes a lot and clips don't easily let go. I personally watched IND remove my diffuser and it took quite an effort to the point I thought that the middle section of the bumper would rip. It didn't.

burkhart engineering offers the OEM diffuser in carbon for those who prefer its design over the M performance one.

Maybe straightforward is a better adjective ...?

The thread that I linked to has a bunch of contributions from people who've been through that exact challenge, and there are some great contributions from longbeachbluem2 (reply #34) and eeyang92 (reply #37) that I think make this a little more straightforward

This is what I did after taping up the bumper to hopefully protect it. Pushing down with the trim remover and pulling out with the other hand. The install was easier than the uninstall. Sides come out easy but the center is challenging.

So I did some digging and found that M2:

From RRP we're looking at 1590 (euros) for the lid...

and 1950 euros for the diffuser.
