Windshield

Anyone have a problem with their windshield? I picked up my M2 two weeks ago, and was detailing it. After cleaning windshield with the sun about to set, I noticed that I could not get it clean. I used paper towels, and then micro fiber cloth. No matter how hard I tried it still had colored dots of what appeared to be pits. I realized that the colored dots were not on the inside or outside of the glass, but in the glass itself. Normally this is not a problem, but while driving into the sun it gives the affect of a windshield that is several years old and is quite annoying. I have been on other car forums, and other people (not BMW's) have had problems like this with their windshields.

It sounds like lime scale deposits. Try wiping the windscreen with a clean cloth with some white vinegar. That should remove what you are seeing. I hope that works for you. Update the thread once you try it. Best!

Hit it with a more aggressive polish and a random orbital. Crystal clear.

I would try a more aggressive scale removing wash (or vinegar) first to see if it is haze from hard water. If that doesn't work, glass polish and a random orbital with a glass polishing pad works wonders.

False. a sharp razor blade on a windshield is exactly how you remove deeply seated lime deposits.

It is not what you do, but how you do it.
