Removing Stock Shift Knob?

Hi All,

I've been trying to the past hour or so to remove the stock shift knob from my LCI in order to swap it out for the M Perf Knob. I've looked online and it seems the accepted method is to pull "very hard". I've tried all sorts of positions, including standing on the seats and pulling with my entire body weight (~170 lbs) with no success. It almost feels like it is glued in place.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Put it in second gear, lean back on it and pull up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried tilting my seat back, put in in 2nd gear, leaned back and pulled upwards but it is still firmly stuck in place.

I put mine into 2nd gear, flipped up the arm rest and rested my elbow on the console(I didn't want to risk denting the arm rest with my elbow). Using my elbow on the console gave me the leverage I needed and to be honest it came off a touch easier than expected.

I put it in neutral, pulled straight up and it came off pretty easy which i was surprised. I'm guessing my car must of been built on a Friday....

Mine is unfortunately still stuck... mine must have been built on a Monday and they sprayed too much glue.

Maybe I will post a video of me trying to pull this thing off

If I can't get it off before my break in service, I may just pay the dealership to give it a go.

When i removed the stock knob, it had zero glue on it. Seems like they changed the production process on how they installed it I guess

These are held on by friction. Go to the gym and work out for a month & try again

This is the sad part... I actually lift pretty regularly Now I feel all weak haha.

I squat much more than my body weight, and even standing on the seats pulling straight up with my legs, it still does not come out. I'm afraid with the amount of force I'm pulling I may actually damage something...

Wow! That's impressive deadlift buddy. All I can think then is your technique is wrong. That's not a criticism more a thought, it should come off without the force of a god pulling on it.

Are you pulling straight up or are you applying force rewards and levering it up?

Hope you weren't standing on the front seats? You may have broken the heated seating elements.

I've put in neutral and pulled straight up. I've also sat in the driver's seat, put it in second and pulled towards my chest (so still "straight up" from the perspective of the stick). Should I be pulling towards the rear?

I did, but more towards the outside bolsters since the angle was a bit awkward. As far as I know, the heating still works... I really didn't think about that

Exactly. You need to release the friction surfaces. Think of it as pulling in a 45degree. Apply pressure rearwards while in second and Lea age upwards

Just got my iND blue stitched CF knob...
I do have the 2er CF knob with white stitching so I just wanted to have the blue back in and bought it from iND. (As i was scared to do the unglue and glue the boot back to the shifter).

Friend of mine is buying my 2er knob anyways so I was not worrying to much to spend extra money for the perfect product. LoL

Now problem comes to remove this knob... I did remove the boot from the console (easy job no problem) but as the OP is having trouble. Mine does not fking come off... very sturdy. My dealer installed the 2er knob so may be they glued it??? I have no idea.

Would it be safe to use hammer with padding and lightly hitting the knob ring from the boot bottom up??? Dammm... now I am getting worry in another part hahaha. I just want to change it soooo bad.. LoL
