It is what it is. My M2 has this too and was already added by the dealer. If you think its a rip off then dont add it that simple. I got my voucher in the mail last year and I still didn't use it. Lets hope it doesnt expire!!!!!!

It does expire someday. The expiry date is indicated on the M Driver's Package voucher.

Anyways, on resale day you can point out that, as also indicated in car documents, your car has the rare feature of V-max being de-restricted at factory (168mph/270kph instead of 155mph/250kph). The dog wears no muzzle.

FWIW, I noticed with mine that, on the German Autobahn, the engine does not completely run out of breath yet at 168mph. But true that, if the car never hits the Autobahn, it's of no automotive use at all and, at most, just offers some added value and bragging rights.

Can someone please tell me how to find out if my car has been de-restricted without going back to the dealer? Thx

Just looked at my voucher and it says it must be redeemed w/in three years of retail date. Thanks for bringing this point to my attention.

Does your M2 feature the de-restricted V-max factory preset ?
  • run your VIN through a BMW VIN decoder: if the VIN build sheet features option code "7ME" (M Driver's Package) = yes it does;
  • V-max indicated in your official docs: 168 mph or 270 km/h (instead of 155 mph or 250 km/h) = yes it does.
Has the de-restricted V-max factory preset been activated ?
  • your M2 already got its first 1200m/2000km maintenance = yes, normally it does; your BMW dealer inserts a unique code provided by the BMW factory with the vehicle, to unlock the preset/setting (just ensure that it has not been overlooked); activation is logged straightaway by the BMW system (so, in principle, with just a few mouse-clicks, BMW HQ in Germany can know);
  • your dealer can tell - you can't on your own, except if you notice that the speedometer needle keeps moving towards ± 280 km/h (174 mph).
By the way: the P3 gauge runs out of breath at 165mph / 266km/h. It just keeps sticking at that value. Despite the M2 speedometer needle moving further down.

Thanks....yes it has 7ME although none of my documents show V-max value nor does the first service invoice note code being entered to de-restrict so I don't know if it has been activated. No autobahn nearby and I don't want to go back to the dealer right now, they already buried the needle on my trust gauge.

Searched through idrive menus hoping to find something there then tried setting max speed warning indicator higher than 155, but that didn't work.

Actual Cost of 1-Day M School Class (which is different than the M Driver's Class / RETAIL): $1550
Actual Cost of Class after BMWCCA Discount: $1275

Frequency of Classes at Thermal (didn't ask about SC): Once a Month
Day of Week Class is Held: Mostly Mondays and Friday (very few weekend classes are offered - meaning you have to take off work to take advantage)

Ability to Convert to Other Classes: Yes* (if you want to pay the difference)

I just talked to Sales Support that manages the process (who are not BMW employees - its all run through Harte Hanks - hartehanks.com)...I figured I could get the 1 Day M School class for $1275 and then apply part of my $1500 voucher value to it. NOPE, the BMWCCA discount would come off the additional $50 you have to pay to switch to the 1 Day M School - a whole $7 - well, Thanks! Great way to absolutely screw the consumer.

The package is a complete joke and I am seriously bitter that I was forced to have it on the PE I bought. Could have done some serious track days for $2500.

Oh, and the other benefit: the increase in speed limit is software (which apparently is already enabled on other cars), completely worthless and comes at zero cost to BMW.

Thanks for letting me rant...if you are custom ordering a car, DO NOT get this package - the cost/benefit analysis literally makes no sense and you are essentially giving BMW $1000+ for nothing.
Before you go through with all of this, find out if you're getting a One-Day Driver's School comped. It's a free gift some have gotten. I believe it's a $850 value, or something like that. I would see if it can be stacked on top of what you've got and get something else like 2-day M school.

So, I've already scheduled the 1-Day M School (which I paid extra for over the M Driver's Program that comes with the M Driver's Package)...how would you see about getting the One-Day Driver's school comped?

Even with another $850 on top of the $1500, the 2-day school is still another $1000 additional (its $4000 retail and $3400 with the BMWCCA discount)

Then your car certainly has the preset.

iDrive won't provide any such info, so useless to check.

Simply contact your dealer to ensure whether the V-max de-restriction factory preset has been activated during the first maintenance (1200m/2000km). An e-mail will do. Normally it has been activated. If it hasn't yet, then arrange for doing so.

I was referring to this: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1407485

I got an email from BMW for the free class and 2 nights stay a few months after getting the M2. When I called in I found out that I actually was eligible for 2 of those freebies (1 for the M3 in December 2016 and another for the M2). Maybe you have one of these freebies coming.

Seems hit or miss and dependent on using BMW FS...which I didn't use.

Got the USB drive but there was no invite to do the Performance School on BMW...no free school.

Do you have ESYS? Anyway you can show me your FSC status? I think the FSC code on my car has been activated but can’t confirm

Dude. It's pretty obvious that the M Driver's Package and the M2 PE are ripoffs. Sorry you figured this out after the fact!
