I'm not sure if the cam will pick up the Thalatta. It seems to be going through the west side locks.

Indeed... it's looking that way. I think that's labeled the canal expansion and doesn't appear to be covered on the webcam site.

Thalatta is OUT!

That was a slow traverse of the Panama canal; nearly 24 hours!

I think this will have caused some delays for us. The reported ETA to Port Hueneme is 2017-10-22 15:30 LT (UTC -7), and the calculated ETA is 2017-10-23 17:42 LT (UTC -7); more than 24 hours later! It's going to have to get a shift on to make the reported ETA.

I calculated that it took 7 days, 14 hours and 12 minutes for the Morning Courier to get to Port Hueneme from the same position.

The reported ETA is 6 days 21 hours from now

So I discovered why Thalatta didn't go through the old locks in the Panama Canal... it wouldn't have fitted!

Thalatta is 36.54m wide, and Panamax (maximum width for older locks) is 32.61m. The New-Panamax limits (using the new locks) is 49.0m, so Thalatta was destined for the new locks from the start, and hoyasaxa and I wasted time trying to get webcam footage!

Tortugas is the W38 vessel headed for the canal, and it's width is 32.29m, so it's able to go through either... just!

This granular tracking info is great - I had a week 37 build but due to ED, I'll be shipping with the week 41 crowd; I can only hope they are as diligent, otherwise I'll have to get off me lazy bum and do the work myself.

If you do end up doing it yourself, the site we're using is bigoceandata.com. This site gives you a one week trial for satellite tracking. If you have a few email accounts, you can get enough free service for the entire journey (about 3 weeks). Of course, while the vessel is near land, Marine Traffic works well, perhaps even better than Big Ocean, but out in the open ocean you get no info.

Thanks for the tip - haven't used that site before - just used Marine Traffic the only other time I did the tracking thing before.

Ship should be offloaded on Monday prior to departure. Then customs and VPC, deliveries within 3-10 days after that, depending on customs and where people live.

FWIW, my time from Baltimore VPC to my dealership was approximately 4 business days. "Liner Release" has a date of October 6th (a Friday). It was listed as "Discharged" from Thalatta on October 8th (Sunday), then "Delivered from" Thalatta on 10/9 (Monday). It was at my dealership (Baltimore to Cleveland OH) on Thursday, 10/12.

One thing we have found is that the dates/times for ship tracking are the date/time that the info was updated in WWL's database, and not the time that the event actually happened... and there seems to be around a 12-24hr delay between when stuff happens and when it shows up on the site. If you aren't on WWL then you don't even get this level of granularity though.

Also note that I had no port installed parts; those can presumably delay the VPC process a bit, depending on what you add. (I've always been curious - if you port-install the M-perf suspension, do they throw the stock stuff in the trunk for you?)

Not sure if anyone has noticed, but Thalatta is tanking! Every time I check it's either doing 19.9 or 20 knots. I've been looking at other WWL vessels, as well as KLine, and most other boats only hit 18 knots tops.

I think it's having to go a little faster because it was behind schedule through the canal...

My delivery is now scheduled for ~2pm on Saturday... but I may get to see the car later today at the detailer's shop (stopping over to pay him / etc). Trying to decide if I want to save the "full reveal" for Saturday or tease myself with it on Thursday.

Paid the detailer... now all that's left is to pick it up Saturday.

Sorry, I know this is the wk37 thread, but if it isn't too much trouble, would you be able to post a update on Tortugas Nezil? Thanks!

As Thalatta was coming out of the Panama Canal, I posted this:

But things have changed...

Marine Traffic's arrival data for Port Hueneme shows the same reported arrival time of 10/22 @ 15.30 Local Time, but the calculated ETA has changed to 10/22 @ 12.08 Local Time. This is still Sunday, but way better than the originally calculated time of 6pm Monday!

Almost there! Suggest you check WWL for customs release ... Fedora arrived on a Sunday, but the customs release happened on Friday (before arrival) I could see this on the WWL report on my particular VIN. And my car flew through customs and VPC - took delivery on Friday following arrival. Car actually arrived at dealer on Thurday.

I just looked at a random car in the Thalatta Bill Of Lading (ACD73801). And sure enough - customs release is today.

May you also fly through customs & VPC ....

Just checked, and you're right! Customs release for my car is already done.

I'm in Southern CA for business Wednesday and Thursday next week, so I'm really hoping I can pick up on Thursday afternoon or Friday morning. I have to be back home by 5pm on Friday, and it's a reasonably long drive from Southern CA to Northern CA. Need to be on the road by 11am Friday ideally.

If not, I'll just have to make a separate trip down.

I feel a Thursday afternoon delivery comin' on!

My car arrived at the dealer before dawn on Thursday. If yours does the same - and you've requested your CA to get on it - seems like a Thursday afternoon delivery is do-able.

BTW - I could see when my car was delivered via the UnitedRoad website. If your car is released to UnitedRoad (not the only trucking company BMW uses), you can see it there. Click on Delivery Receipt, enter last 8 of VIN (that's right last 8, not last 7).
