Lightbulb Cig lighter removal?

Has anyone tried to remove the center console cigarette lighter? I'd like to replace it with a usb charging port and I'd have to remove the lighter (the whole socket, not just the push in part) to do this. I figure I'd have to open up the center console or something. In an easy world my cup holders would lift out like on my E46, but the F87 isn't in the easy world.

seems like a lot of work.

Why not just buy a low profile dual usb charger to plug into 12v socket ?

I have Aukey and Griffin in mine and my wife's car - plugged in full time - work a treat

Funny, I ordered almost the same one from US Amazon this morning. I still like some of the built in ones though. I guess I'm just curious how tough the disassembly would be in general.

Whole unit has to come up to detach cigarette lighter. MPE Bluetooth needs better storage, how bout utilizing cigarette lighter for remote storage vs foam carrier. Filed mine down as shown:

Right on that's what I posted for all to give it some thought vs that god awful rubber holder BMW sends ! I must say it does look trick sitting there though !!
