There is unfortunately a relatively easy way to remove plain Mcguard nuts.
You need the type that has the free spinning edge to take care of the problem. Luckily the BMW OEM security bolts are the ones you need. Mcguard are actually the OEM for BMW security wheel bolts. So just get a set from your dealer. They are then already fully black and they are the type with the free spinning collar. BMW Part number for M2 : 36 13 6 792 851 Size is M14x1,25 The Black OEM BMW McGuard ones with the free spinning collar

One note on any security bolts:
Do Not, Do Not, Do Not let anyone fasten them with air tools. They will over torque them and your adapter tool/key will break trying to remove them. Always fasten by hand only I actually remove mine and fit a regular bolt in their place if any of the cars go in to the dealer or tire shop. I then replace it when the car is back an re torque all the other bolts to the BMW spec. This way you never have problems

As indicated in a previous comment: get an additional wheel lock bolt that is different than the BMW OEM wheel lock bolts. Purpose: avoid that thieves can use the BMW key set to unlock it (please note that it's not very complicated to get your hands on a BMW key set serving to unlock OEM wheel lock bolts).

I cant agree more, I just saw a socket like tool that fits over these lock bolts that has spiral groves inside it that help spin it off in case you can't get your locking bolt off due to damage or whatever. Even a rookie with a battery impact tool can remove most wheel locks.

Friend of mine all 4 wheels of his LBB M2 were stolen last night. Found his car on four blocks. Also the M Performance trunk lip and one of the CF mirror caps were ripped off. The car was parked in covered parking lot. Damn frustrating.

Have not tested yet, but it seems that - according to the McGard configurator - the '27226' model of McGard are the way to go for the M2 and current M3/M4 (M14x1.25 thread + 17mm hex size are indeed correct):

Went with the triple nickel (black) plated ones from McGard - purchased the box set which includes all wheel bolts and locking bolts. McGard part no. = 67229SUB
They are OEM 17hex M14x1.25 but I got the 10mm longer ones over OEM length as I've added 10mm spacers. OEM length is 27mm, mine are 37mm. |
