Fedora has come and gone
Fedora just departed Port Hueneme for Japan ... so unless they forgot to discharge my car - it's sitting on the ground in California.
So I looked up my VIN specifically on WWL just now, and it shows that both "Liner Release" and "Customs Release" happened at Port Hueneme on Sep 29 (2 days before arriving at Port Hueneme). The optimist in me wants to think that customs release is complete, and my car can head directly into VPC (previous ED car got stuck in Customs for a couple of days), and maybe I'll see delivery late next week. Time will tell. For those fellow OCDers who are reverse engineering all of this like I am, my thought is that given the ship arrived and departed on a Sunday, that perhaps the customs office can do the release remotely during week-day hours - so as not to clog up the port over the weekend (??). Note that Sep 29 was a Friday. Just guessing - but it would be neat if our cars got fast-tracked through customs that way (by arriving on the weekend). By comparison - the cars that arrived on Torino, arrived on Sep 21 (Thursday), and their liner & customs release dates were Sep 25 (Monday). Caveat: We've seen that WWL status dates are unstuck in time, and can sometimes report events that are known to have happened earlier than the reported dates. Perhaps the same thing is happening here in reverse - but it's hard to believe they'd report an event that hasn't yet happened. Here's hoping we're fast-tracked! Another oddity - the wild card search of M2 vins on WWL doesn't report those two statuses (Line Release and Customs Release) - so if you're doing a wildcard search and sorting by date of last status - those status dates don't show up on the search. |

VPC
I just called BMW Genius to see if they have any word on my car that came in on the Fedora. They said it shows off the ship but not received to the VPC yet. I am worried it will get stuck in customs for a week or two as it was ED car.
I was hoping to have it for next Saturday. Time will tell. |

ED car might take longer. Last time I did ED in 2015, my car took 5 days to clear customs, and then 2 weeks to get through VPC - but I had explicitly called out a scratch that needed to be addressed - so that's what delayed it in the VPC (they did a fabulous job fixing it btw). Did you highlight any cosmetic damage when you turned your car back in after ED? |

I didn't point anything out when I checked it in but the check in lady pointed out some small rock chips on the front down low. It also had some black streaks on it from I think soft tire chunks from the Nurburgring (so worth it). They didn't wash out but they may was out.
I was hoping to have the car for next weekend but looks like I may miss it. Is there any way to see when it gets to the VPC? I check status on MyBMW and they listed it as delivered once i picked it up in Germany. |

When I had my 2-weeks-in-the-VPC experience with my last ED, the BMW Genius folks were able to tell me status: Enter VPC -> Work Order started+estimated completion -> Work Order complete -> Exit VPC/Released to Trucking. Genius (or your CA) is the only way - the myBMW thing will be useless for this level of detail. They may very well fix those rock chips at the VPC without you asking. They used to replace curb-rashed wheels too - but I hear they don't do that anymore. |

I got told by BMW Genius that my car got entered in to the VPC today and they expect it to be released to shipping on Monday. They said I should expect it next Wednesday. I just hope that they actually ship on the same day.

She has landed
My car showed up today. Almost 8 weeks. ( 1 day shy). From dropping her at the Munich Airport. I was fun to watch The Fedora as she crossed the oceans.

A bunch of M2's arrived at port scheduled for the Don Quijote, mine included. EDIT: Looks like the boat already left. Scheduled for Nov 17th.

Yes mine completed production Oct 27 and arrived at port Nov 2. I called genius last Friday and still not even assigned to a vessel. The timeframe is much longer than I anticipated, when I first got my production number my CA said early December. I wonder now if I will have a car by the end of the year.
