Google insisted on BMW providing access to vehicle telematics. That's obviously a privacy issue for the driver. It's also a competitive issue for BMW because google is researching automated cars. BMW refused. Thus, no android auto. I'm not upset about it.

This is 100% correct! I wouldn't want Google to know where or how I drive and sell that info to my insurance company.
