Track:Sell STI to buy M2?

Currently my bone stock 2015 STI is running 2:02.8 with RS3/ZII at buttonwillow cw13. I know m2 is faster but I'm wondering how fast m2 could run with same tire and manual?

Don't know about that track but the M2 should be quite a bit faster. I sold my 16 STI Limited, and bought a M2. I hated the STI. It felt slow as dirt, understeered on turn in and was generally not that fun to drive. M2 feels super balanced, way more torque, sharper steering and turn in. I'd guess equal tire M2 is at least 1.5-2 full seconds faster on a 1.3 second course.

If you want to stick with AWD try a Focus RS. They aren't that great on the street but a lot of fun to drive on a small tight track.

Here's me hooning a friend's RS on a small 1.3 mile track.

Based on all the reviews, it should be a decent amount quicker around the track, but a lot depends on the specific track and the driver of course.

The only way to know for sure is to buy one!

Stock STI doesn't come with -1.5 camber like focus rs/m2. driver should take it to an alignment shop before first track day(stock is around -0.5).
LOL so I'm curious about accurate lap time of M2 at buttonwillow cw13/thunderhill.

That's why I'm curious here. M2 is definitely quicker...but by how much?
Stock m2 in media test uses better tire, better alignment and DCT.
What about same tire, same level of alignment and manual? Is it significantly faster or basically same lap time?

M2 should be quite a bit quicker. Any sti mods? They don't handle well stock and are not setup well from factory. Wants to push like crazy.. Awful understeer. Also if it's tuned and you frequently attend hpde just note that the ej motor can have lubrication issues at high rpm during big G's. Maybe this is a factor for you?

With 30+ track days I would sell it before my ringlands go. Love the Subaru, hate the EJ25

Thx for replying.
Manual or DCT? How much difference do you think in terms of lap time?

I usually buy manuals but I've never liked bmw gearboxes. Can't imagine much. Have a friend who's run very close times to me in a manual m2

5 seconds is a pretty big difference with similar performance tires. Even if you take away the coilovers it's probably still 3.5-4 seconds a lap which is significant. Like I said the STI is a turd.

All bmw gearboxes need a short shift, heavy knob, and thicker linkage. This typically fixes most issues. DSSR, e60 m5 lever, ZHP knob are often my first mods on any bmw. Not sure if the m2 has a dssr yet. Haven't seen the linkage but I assume it's a twig.

No DSSR yet, but SSK from UUC does a world of good. Stiffen and shorten the clutch pedal action and box is much much better.

Your 2:02.8 vs TheKosherStogie's 1:57.2 at the same track.
