I’m one of those people that have been interested in a CS, but the right car at the right deal hasn’t fallen in my lap. 🤞

Would love to know how many CS’s are on the road now in the US (assume some totaled), and how many are weekend warriors vs daily drivers. If you’re picky on spec, trans and brakes, and you want one with moderate mileage, I could see why the right deal would take some time! I got super lucky and found my perfect spec reasonably quickly and somewhat local…paid fair market, which still stung but my gut was to jump on it as what I wanted was only going to get harder and harder to find…if you’re in it for the long term like me, I wasn’t going to lose my dream spec in hopes of saving a few bucks…have to stay rational, but also not risk losing the perfect car for you trying to time the market. My gut is, after the next few years, most of these cars are going to be in very long term hands, only making things harder.

I've wanted a CS since it came out but failed to convince my wife in 2020. I didn't mention it much for a couple of years but lately I feel we're at an inflection point in our lives where it's kind of now or never in terms of funds available for an extra "toy" car. Despite some recent, shall we say, heated discussions on the topic and my ideal 1/9 spec. car slipping away in Feb, she did let me bid on the recent BaT 5k mile car. Right now there's nothing in a spec. that I would want and/or at the right price but hopefully she's been convinced, even if it's reluctantly, to approve the purchase when the right one does pop up.

Some of you guys have been sipping the Kool-Aid to try to justify the price of admission. Buying an M2 CS (or any car) new and hoping for it to retain its value was/is a gamble. To think it will continue to do so long term still is.
Wife/no wife, cash/financing, garage queen/daily driver, it all enters into the equation. I've never bought a car I couldn't afford and I've only bought one "classic" car I ever lost money on, primarily because I made the mistake of restoring it. Do your homework and buy what you like and can afford. If it maintains its value you win. If it goes up in value you hit the jackpot. If it goes down in value you've had a great time driving a car you love. Don't try to justify the purchase.

Agree, NOT an investment and there's no guarantee of retaining value though the CS has been running ahead of the curve in terms of depreciation.

The luxury bag market has had limited edition bags and special designs for quite zome time, you'd be surprised what appreciation is possible by getting yourself immersed in the industry. So get your wife a nice limited edition designer bag in return for you to getting a CS.
Market dynamics for cars have changed with the dramatic shift to EVs and smaller engines, I could see that positively impacting the long term value of the CS. Only time will tell. Mine is a winter storage and fun in the summertime car.... |

MB Gold CCB MT 7k mi Opened at $50k, appears it's being sold by a dealer, bid up to $77k already. Seems like a big atypical jump that soon into a 7 day auction.

Just crazy to me how many of these are turning over in a short period of time…I “get it” now that we’re at the 3-4 year mark, but relative to the amount that were sold in US new vs turned over used, the rate is pretty high recently. Interesting one to watch, thanks for flagging this.

I still feel like the M2 CS is special 3+ years later. Maybe because I only drive it 1-2 days per week. Or maybe because I know it’s the last of its kind (short of the G87, which is heavier and not a visually appealing to me). Cars will keep getting faster but heavier and less engaging. I’m keeping this one. I want to drive it in 10–15 years from now. Maybe one day I’ll hand it down to my now 13 year old son as he approaches 30, and he will get a great collector car. |

100% agree - this is a once in a generation type car…anyone who can swing it financially should hold on for as long as you can, experiences / packages like this likely won’t be on sale new again, especially from BMW. From things as small as the gauge cluster, manual inputs and non-dominating tech in the cabin to things as big as the design language and driving dynamics, this is a car worth holding onto for the long run.
I know most of us share the same love affair, but something that speaks volumes to me is my complete lack of lust for anything else in this class, new or old. That’s the sign of a good long term relationship haha. |

We're hitting the top of the theoretical investment curve, or have already started the downward trend, for original owners. It's fish or cut bait time. You're either in it now for the long term or you get out while you can still break even and the resale market is still strong. That's what some are thinking....not me.
It's like when your favorite stock has a bad month. Do I hold or do I sell? Personally I don't care. The money's gone and the car is in the garage. It's a cool car to own and drive.

2001 Honda S2000 in Grand Prix white. Sold it for an Acura TSX because the now-ex wanted me to have something practical, but then she bailed after a month. I’ve always said I should have ditched the ex and kept the car.
I view the CS as the spiritual successor to that S2000. It’s just awesome and I love it. Even if I found another S2000, I wouldn’t sell the CS. I’m just attached to it more (plus, the wife loves it too). |
