Side Skirt Rear Winglets
So was at Barrett Jackson this week and BMW had an M2 there, among many other cars (unfortunately it was the only one fenced off so you couldn't get into it ) But it had a few performance goodies on it, and the one that caught my eye were the side skirt winglets. Thought they really looked cool, and added a nice contrast to the LBB. Has me thinking about adding to mine. But being somewhat of an aerodynamic geek, won't put anything on my car that isn't functional.
But I couldn't really figure out what these winglets do. I can't imagine they are downforce producers. Maybe smooth the air around the rear tire, or funnel more air to cool the brakes? |

Totally useless but they look cool. I'd even consider some knockoffs, as I don't really believe in spending $$$ on genuine carbon parts in areas they'l get destroyed.

I have them. They don't really do much and it's purely aesthetic. But, it really adds a huge dimension to the car. My dealership sold a couple of M2s and I was the first to get all the M Performance CF bits, they said mine looked the best even after the others modded theirs

I have the side ones, didn't get the front ones though...got the Vorsteiner lip instead. Never really thought about them getting damaged from road debris...but I suppose they'll take a few hits. Wonder if PPF would work on these? Planning to do the rocker panels anyway.

I go back and forth on the front winglets...some days I like them, some days not sure. But I dig the side winglets - they always work. If there's one add-on my wife will probably have little trouble talking me into, it's the CF side winglets. They just look good.

I'm in love with them. They really add something to any color, but on AW.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the OEM winglets.
If I were to go the carbon bits everywhere route I'd much rather grab a proper set of side skirt extensions. RW ($650): Perl ($600): |

Side winglets are awesome, agree with the statement above about it adding a new dimension at various angles. I did the fronts to match, they really do flow well together.

The OEM/MPP winglets really do look good (especially on AW!) and the front and sides complement each other nicely.
Minimal, if any, aero effect... but that's okay.

Mine were already on the car when I bought it (along with mirror covers, exhaust area rear diffuser, etc.). I think they're a really nice accent in front of the rear tires on mine - though I don't really feel a strong need to add them at the front.

If I did any aerodynamic upgrades I'd go with the Vorsteiner splitter/defuser. Sadly I do a lot of autocross so those parts would just get ruined.

Bang for buck. In terms of looks is suspension lowering vs the carbon bits...makes it that much more aggressive.
With the cf bits. It still has a big ass wheel gap. |

Those Front and Rear Winglets are wack. There are way better aftermarket options available.
I do like the OEM rear spoiler and diffuser though. They got those right at least. |

Looks like a great way to block airflow to the Intercooler.

What does BMW charge for a set of rear winglets ? And what’s the best alternative brand ? Do they stick on ? If so does one need to remove the Xpel first ? I think they look rather cool.

I have just got a front and rear set for my M2, which has taken a beating on the paintwork from stone chips anyway!
