BMW M2 LCI to wait or not to wait?

Hi guys,

i have an M2 on order scheduled to go into production in the first week of February with it due to be delivered around mid april, i placed my order in 08/16 so waited a good 5 months with it being 9 months by the time we get to april, but with the rumours of the M2 LCI coming i am at a cross roads as to either wait or just go ahead with my original order? so does anyone have any info on.

release date?

new features?

engine upgrades?

interior upgrades?

i'd hate them to replace the N55 engine its incredible in this current M2 has bags of character and charm.

help me out guys what should i do stick or twist?

cheers

I'm waiting. I got a production number last December and I told my CA that I want to wait. I am the first one on the list for a 2018 MY M2.

I waited this long, 6 more months is nothing.

I'm in the same position with the Week 7 (Feb) build and have decided not to wait any longer. I've already waited since December 2015.

I'm getting first LCI M2 that comes to Poland, agreed with the biggest dealer in Warsaw. He confirmed that with the importer who asked him how did I (the client) know that an LCI is coming. Other dealer tried to force current MY order (US guys don't read this) as there are free quotas that nobody wants and I can get the car in 2 months from now.
My situation is different though as I'm finishing my lease on '15 GTI PP in June, so June/July is my target delivery date anyways and I can't buy it now because I can't end a lease before 2nd year ends.
If I were you and was interested in long term use (more than 3 years) I'd take it now, we don't even have any confirmation yet whether M2 LCI is coming or not and if it is, it's gonna be like M4 (minor changes).
I have a different plan that I hope to accomplish

The M4 'LCI' came out with new lights front and rear.....and people are still asking about the M2 updates and if it's worth waiting for!

Try to look in terms of percentage of improvement. How big of an improvement will a '17 M2 be over your Golf tdi? 30%, 50%, 200%? Idk, that is something for you to decide.

Then think about how much of an improvement an LCI model will have over the '17 M2. If it is only headlights and tail lights like the m3/4 then maybe that amounts to a 3-5% benefit.

You mentioned loving the n55 and not wanting that to change so maybe the risk of losing that is something to factor in as a negative of waiting.

Now just ask yourself if the increase in benefits minus the increased risks is enough for you to justify waiting.

For me I love the current car as it is and wouldn't change anything. It is going to be a very big improvement over my current car. So I don't have a problem with getting a '17 and enjoying it even if newer tail lights come out in the future.

If you think about it, there will always be something to wait for if you look far enough ahead.

Best of luck!

If you're this close to an LCI change, I would personally wait. We don't really know what the LCI will include but I know I would likely regret not waiting. Thinking about the M4 LCI, I definitely would want the LCI over the "standard" car if I were buying an M4. Those lights and some minor features do make a difference to me if waiting time is my only significant cost.

The other thing to think about is price difference. Since there are no "deals" to be had on the M2, expect sticker to go up a little but you don't have to worry about a 2017 at 5-10% off vs a full MSRP 2018. With M4 buyers that might be a real difference.

yeah i guess you're right but the golf is only a work car, its okay for now i have lots of travelling ahead for work, but i wish i knew what the LCI was now so i could decide, i am going to go to my dealer tomorrow and see if he can let me in on some info

very philosophical

cheers dude!

Is the LCI for you or for resale? If its for resale most people wont know the different between pre and post LCI model, besides us car people on these forums. If its for yourself, then you can always buy the headlights and or tail lights (if it fits which I think it will) IF you really like the new look.

But you have to remember that you are going to have to wait till September/October for 2018, miss out on a summer of driving. In my opinion they will not throw in a new motor in the normal M2, and the CS/CSL is a different car entirely.

its for me sir! my first M car, the closest thing to a performance car that i've owned was a F20 125i 2012 RHD but i moved to the Czech Republic to work and order the M2 as soon as i sold my F20, so i don't want to sell it, i was also looking at the Cayman 2014-2015, but the GTS is out of my price range i think that car is the only car i'd change the M2 for.

If I were you I would just get it ASAP, but that's me. New cars will always come out soon after even if you wait for LCI. That's their business to keep coming out with new stuff to make you want to buy it. There is no end to the waiting game.

I'd pick it up ASAP myself. If you don't, you'll always be saying well I'm gonna wait for X.. like those waiting for LCI or CS or GTS. Who knows what could happen in the future.. plus looking at BMW LCIs of the past they have never been something worth waiting for imo.

I know it may sound like bad value we got the tail end of the 17's when the LCI is coming post summer but I don't think it will be any major changes. I spoke with the GENIUS and asked about Idrive and it will just slightly improve over the current one. Where as the 16 idrive vs 17 Idrive was a bigger improvement. It also won't surprised me the LCI offers LED lights. Also the n55 engine is great for the car already so u might risk them not continuing possibly. The LCI might have a price increase too and might not be worth the value and wait for it. I wanted my car before summer and right now everything is on schedule. I'm excited to take delivery around April/May!

The M2 LCI will include an upgraded version of the B58 engine. Horsepower and torque will go up. Right now the N55 in the M2 has less torque than the B58 in the M240i and the same exact amount of torque with the overboost active as the B58 in the M240i.

The B58 in the LCI M2 will need to put more of a power difference between the M2 and the M240i. With all of that said, don't wait, grab an M2 now.

It should be the same N55 engine. This would be expected at this stage of production per history. And no engine change was related by one the most authoritative insiders we have to go by.
