My commute to the loop (I'm in Chicago) is done by train every day. I really only need a car for road trips and weekend fun. While I was exaggerating a bit, I'm also sure I'm going to need to get super creative in order to hit the break-in miles. Some weeks the ol' E36 M3/4/5 doesn't even leave the garage, sadly (although at 183k miles, she's lived a good life), and we have a Fit for grocery runs. Back of the envelope math says even if I drive to work, it would 4.5 months before 1800 miles, and I'd have to spend about $2k to park. Thanks Chicago. In all seriousness, though, I'm not complaining about needing to plan a nice twisty road trip to vary the load for break-in.

Tried to get an F80 early last year, but ran into the same insane supply and communication issues that we're seeing here with the M2. So, I know this seems like a unique situation to the M2, but it was just as bad on the M3/4 side late 2014 and through the first half of 2015. I placed an order in March, number 2 on the list, and each month a small handful of dealers would get 1 allocation. I got the same run around we are all getting now for 5 months, then I stopped being able to get a hold of my CA. Another month goes by, and another CA emails me and tells me that my previous CA was canned, they finally got their second allocation, it's not a 2015 anymore, the price has gone up, and residuals are worse by 3 points. I told them to shove it. The only reason I didn't go chasing allocations elsewhere for all that time was because the original deal was insane for the time, Invoice + 1k when everyone was getting MSRP+.

Anyhow, although I would rather have four doors, the M2 is way closer in spirit to my E36, which despite being aged and rusty (don't DD a classic in salty winters; I was young), remains thoroughly tossable and fun compared to most of the current gen horsepower queens, which, to my palate, seem to be the equivalent of candy: tastes fantastic to start, but eventually starts to blend together in flavor until it all tastes the same, overly sweet and refined. So, my debacle was a bit of a blessing in disguise.

If I ever get one.

Shankska, I tend to believe what you're hearing as well as the internals memo posted earlier (which I made my CA aware of). Supposedly the info I gave comes from the regional manager, but if I had to guess, I would put money on not being able to get a car for the summer. Again.

Ok so here is the skinny on this, let's just say there's a hefty amount of truth behind it but I can't come out and say its 100% confirmed and official.

Only HEA's and a handful (mostly ED or PCD) of customer orders are MY16.

The bulk (ie. 99%+) of actual customer orders will be MY17.

So in summary, if you didn't grab an HEA, very high likelihood you'll get a MY17.

So the MY16 low price was mostly a tease because essentially you could not buy a car. MY17 price will go up and less free maintenance included. Any guesses how much of a price increase?

The price of the car will go up?

I have an order in writing with MSRP with all options. Did not check if it specified 2016 model.

No sweet clue...my suggestion though? If you already have a deposit, get your SA/CA/GM to sign a document saying they'll honor the MY16 price or you walk. A few people have done this (myself included before my situation changed from MY17 to MY16) with reasonable success.

Yes, usually there is a price bump, plus for MY17 in the US, you folks are going to be losing out on maintenance (in Canada we're screwed anyway, so no change in maintenance haha).

Also, MSRP could change, so make sure they agree to MSRP for the MY16 before they go and say "oh well, says here you agreed to MSRP and MSRP changed out of our control, so pay up".

Does the Model "162R" notation indicate MY2016 or does it mean something else? The email from my SA with the Vehicle Inquiry Report has a jpg. attached that is titled "2016 BMW M2 [my name]"...obviously that isn't conclusive or anything in writing. I need to check my actual signed order and see what it says.

I just checked mine and it says the same thing. If they tried to tell me I have a MY 2017 and I don't want to accept that, I am certainly entitled to my deposit back since it was clearly for a MY 2016.

Hope that doesn't happen but it seems more likely every day without a production number.

Agree. My CA is off today and tomorrow. So, he said he would get back to me on Friday.

Do you think that on the release date pegged on April 16th, BMW USA might release more allocations for US dealers or do you think we wont see any allocations given out till next month??

My SA said yesterday that he hasn't gotten any allocations yet.

The HEA car is being delivered next week.

I doubt anyone knows this. My dealer thinks there is a possibility, before year end, for additional allocations.
The third possibility not mentioned is no more allocations for the year.

Thanks, hopefully a glimmer of hope is still there for MY16 to be allocated. My CA also has no idea what is going on, in the sense that BMW US has not sent over anything other than the HEA. Either he doesn't know or he just doesn't want to tell me. But we will see. Hopefully next month good news happens!

MY16s are gone. BMW would have to change their near term production schedule otherwise.

This ^^^

If you don't have a production number or HEA you're not getting a MY16. Simple as that.

Your CA/SA can say you will all he/she wants but it ain't happening.

Does anyone know for a fact that the price will go up next year? Im not to worried about the maintenance, but would be upset if they jacked the price up another few thousand dollars.
