They likely will be cars for the west coast M school?

Possibly. I signed up for the March 6 driving event at the BMW Performance Center West. Rumor has it the Laguna Seca M2's will be there. Maybe I can get a chance to drive an M2 if not than at least finally see one in the flesh to determine if I want a LBB M2.

What lengths someone will go through just to see an M2 in person...

Just talked to my dealer and what he told me is that allocations for every BMW are assigned monthly. There is no annual allocations at all. Maybe some dealers saying 5-6 a year is them calculating one allocations a month starting June
Production for M2 starts in April so first HEA cars will be here in June?

Allocations definitely come out monthly.
How much information is known about allocations on an annual basis appears to vary from dealer to dealer. Some say they know how many they will get a year and others don't. It could be guessers by zealous CAs or it could be that some dealer GMs release full info to the sales staff and others don't.

An HEA car is a dealers first car- show model

Not all HEA Cars will be an April allocation. Some dealers may get an HEA later in the year than others. allocations for the 1M came in sections of the county. Northeast,
West coast and Texas, some of the later states were AL, TN,LA and SC.

Production of HEA cars has begun and many of those cars are already on US soil and pending the April 16 release date.

M3+M4 sales were 14,504 last year, and 68% less (8633) in 2014:

I understand that not all dealers get HEA cars at the same time; some have them (M2s) allocated already while others are still waiting. But...does EVERY dealer get an HEA car? Or do only dealers of a certain size get them? If not all, does anyone know how BMW determines which dealers to allocate an HEA car to? Thanks for any clarification that can be provided, and apologies if I missed this somewhere else.

Classic BMW in Willoughby, OH has their HEA car available for purchase. It's MSRP! But since you're from outta town, it might be higher.
AW,DCT,Exec

Ian Burrows is my contact. I have no affiliation with these guys and I am on record for my disdain, but i'd still like to pass along info cause I want all of us to get cars. But I make no promises that the info is set in stone. Since things have already changed.

The press release says 14,504 M cars in total, not just the M3/M4. I presume that figure includes the M5, M6, X5M, X6M and possibly even the M235.

Sure does. I think the worldwide sales are M3 and M4 around 10,000, however.

In response to an inquiry about whether he had any update since I ordered in late February, my SA had this to say this week:

"The M2 is still in holding status which means they haven't started to build it yet. I will let you know as soon as it goes into production."

I guess he means "my M2," which is really just a theoretical idea of a car until I get a production number haha. Has anyone else heard a similar response about a "holding status?"

It's semantics , but your better believe that BMW would state that differently and would show that they had an increase in sales of 168% over 2014.

Makes me chuckle every time I hear someone whine about " dilution of the brand "

Well I backed away considering the dealership wanted to give me only 65K for my 15' GTR... LOL

Not sure what they are smoking but everyone at or near my mileage is selling around 80K and up. I get that they need to cover their costs and floorplanning this is tough due to select customer base but they were trying to get me to give up 15K so they could dump it at auction if need be and still pull a profit. Sorry- worked at ADESA for years and know the game too well.

Wife's happy with her tuned 135i so we will wait for the hoopla to settle down and maybe look later on.

Best of luck to the rest of you though

You should have a production number once they have a car to actually sell you. Some of the guye have had production numbers for 60 days now. I had mine 24 hours after signing the order and making a deposit. My understand is that once they have a car and decide to sell it to you, you'll have a production number and official status to track.

It sounds like you've got theoretical BS now while they wait for a unit to sell you.

Sorry.
