M2, no under-hood cover?

Hello everyone

I met up with a friend to checkout their new ride, while taking a look at the engine bay we noticed that the M2 doesn't have an under-hood cover/shield. Has this part been removed from the M2?

My M135i has it, what do you guys think?

Thanks

I was wondering about that too the other day when I opened the hood. It is shown on realoem as a part

Lets more sound through without it and offers some heat protection for the hood. You can always install one if you want. Its the same part for all the 2 series.

I don't think M cars come with them? I know my Z4M didn't have one and I don't think the F8x M3/M4 do either. I'm not sure why you would want one?

The M240i vs M2 sound insulation, not sure why they broke the M2 up into front and rear but it looks like it has less pieces of insulation.

I don't recall the specific number, but 20 some lbs of sound deadening material were removed from the 235i for the M2. You've located one location. Who can find the rest?

I remember reading about this for my old E90 M3 because those also didn't have one and found the reasoning was for additional airflow (cooling, heat dissipation); perhaps it's the same concept here?

Doesn't have it, in fact BMW removed most of the sound reading from the M2 for weight savings and to add some engine sounds to the cabin. I think they said they removed 20lbs in sound deadening all total.

I'm thinking about removing mine now, one of major things I wish the M135i had was more noise 😂

It's only really there for fire protection. But it's pretty speculative if it will be effective at all in a serious fire. Imo take it off immediately and enjoy a bit of extra noise.

My M235 came with the insulation. I removed it and noticed fractionally more engine noise when the windows are down. The insulation cover weighs less than a pound.
