Chris Harris does a good job relating the vehicle's capabilities to how it will make me "feel". His reviews aren't anchored by lap times. For whatever reason, i'd prefer an M2 for its tech and design. However, if I were to tune the vehicle, i'd love a 1M. Why? Because twin turbo. |

To be honest these kinds of reviews are good for us long term.
They will certainly not wake bmw up. But they will slowly wake up the enthusiasts. Who will eventually vote with their wallet. That will wake up bmw. It's a slow and long road. But this is one step forward.

The want is a fast, sporty, excellent handling, competent car that delivers power on demand and doesn't get its balance upset. At the same time you want to be able to toss a car around to your hearts desire, if that makes sense.
Maybe that's what Chris is trying to get across, but when you see lots of tire burning drifts and him commenting on how 'spiky" the 1M is, how "troublesome" it is, how "it's angry, it's dangerous", it does come across as contradicting other comments that praise handling, grip, confidence, etc. I get how this confuses some. |

M2 is fantastic! Best BMW driver's car made today..... period. However, to a few of us, the 1M is different from the current lot of BMWs and more related to previous generation of cars many of us fell in love with. The Cosworths, Renault R5s, Renault Alpines, etc. So for this reason many of simply prefer it and think it has something special. He is not alone, there are others that love the M2 and would own it in a heartbeat but for some reason also thought the 1M was slightly more special. What makes Chris nailing it, is just how concise he is about explaining it and the fact that he put crazy money where his mouth is by buying one. |

All I got from this video is that when it comes to relatively small vehicles, BMW remains one of the best.

The M2 is a solidly great car just not special or particularly memorable is my takeaway from all the reviews I have watched and read. I have one on order but am seriously considering a base 991 instead. I realize it is much more money and a very different car but I'm seriously forcing myself to find passion for the M2.

Actually, several of the reviews are practically gushing. JC from the Grand Tour, who has been around, just called it the best M car ever made, for example. Chris Harris, while preferring the 1M, is very complimentary as well.
Seems like you might be hearing what you want to hear. Personally, owning a Porsche, I don't think the cars are particularly in the same category. A light, highly-powered two seat sports car is just not what the M2 purports to be. I recommend both |

I have both 1M and M2.
1M is a more analog car and more challenging to drive. M2 is a better allround car and easier to drive fast. If i could buy both new my choice would be 1M coupe. |

The biggest difference is you can buy a M2, if you're willing to wait. You can only get the 1M used and prices are continuing to go up. Not as bad as an air cooled 911, but the 1M is special enough and rare enough that it has room to grow in value. Maybe Chris Harris is bumping up the value of his investment by doing this little fun video? Seems sincere though.
