If I understand the OP correctly, for some unfathomable reason the M2 is not available in manual in Portugal... though I get the impression it is in pretty much every other country. That would pretty much suck!

Finally got a chance to sit in a M2 this past week... and I saw nothing that I was not happy with. I really liked the raw CF, after having doubts with the mixed reviews on here. It was not as luxurious as the M4 interior... but it gave me the impression of qood quality and functionality, which together with the knowledge of all the wonderful hidden quality under the hood under the skin was plenty for me. Plus it is perfectly proportioned!

You didn't hear me say the 440 is luxurious. But at least it doesn't have that crappy plastic panels in the interior. It's clearly inferior to some other sport cars, take the Cayman for example. But the main concern is the availability of a manual gearbox. And I wonder how many of us are racing the car frequently, or taking it side ways in public roads..

I'll try to test-drive both in the next weeks.

The question is, would you choose the 440i instead of the M2 solely based on the availability of a manual gearbox?
I priced out a 440I the way I would want it and close to the M2 I'm ordering at it's $10K more. No, I wouldn't choose the 440i based on the manual but the M2 is cheaper for what you get at least here in the USA. Also, I like the look of the M2 much more but that's just subjective.

Get a manual corvette. Looks and sounds, super fast and doesn't feel cheap.

What kind of driving do you do most of the time? Highway id take the 440 (probably get a GC) and not think twice. Around town, twisties, track M2. Like others have said two completely different things.

I wouldn't get too wrapped around the axle about the transmission. I was a manual guy for years. Drove numerous LS1 Fbodies, LS2 GTOs/Vettes, STI, Shelby GT500, Audi S4/5; all with manuals.

My car prior to getting the M2 was a 981 Boxster S with PDK. My first automatic ever. What an awesome transmission! I am sure I would have loved the manual too, but PDK killed. The speed of the shifts, whether in auto or manual mode, was crazy.

I traded the Porsche for the M2 with DCT and so far so good. First impressions: PDK is better than DCT; DCT is light years ahead of the ZF8 I have driven in the 335/340.

The DCT is still a lot of fun. Factor that in with the handling, brakes and looks of the M2, and it was a no brainer for me.

+1. Manual is fun as hell, but so is DCT. Gotta remember DCT, while you have auto mode can still be driven as a manual transmission.

Agreed, after years driving MT (like the majority here in the UK) there's no looking back after DCT/PDK in a modern car especially in City traffic imo.

Why would you get rid of the blue stitching?? That's the best part about the M2 interior!

IMO the 4 series is a boat and I don't care what motor they put in there. I will never own an f3x or f8x for that reason. You either like a long wheelbase car or you don't.

the 440 is a beautiful looking car and does a great job of being comfortable while in traffic or on the highway. If you want to drive then the M2 no question.

I drove the 435i, it's a comfortable and natural GT that doesn't really excite the driver. Very easy to do long miles in. I imagine the 440i is similar in character.
